God's Joyful Surprise: Finding Yourself Loved

“I will never leave you.”
God’s constant presence is one of the things I love most about Him. It is also one of His characteristics I easily forget. A visual person, I remember what I see, and on earth God is invisible all day long. In Sue Monk Kidd’s book “God’s Joyful Surprise: Finding Yourself Loved,” she writes of her early tendency to do, do, do things for the Lord, partly as a way to gain His favor. He had to teach her to slow down and just be with Him, the one who never left her. He loved her no matter what she accomplished.Sue’s book has helped me in practical ways to learn how to make practicing the presence of God a reality in my life. I just finished reading it, and I want to start it all over again to help imprint the truths she taught more firmly into my day to day life. I am comforted by the fact that even when I forget Him, He loves me and will never let me go.

Delightful , inspiring and enjoyable read
The author takes us on a very personal journey. Out of a personal crisis in her life, she lets us walk with her as she ventures on her inner path of spiritual discovery and healing. She has a way of conveying some of the deepest spiritual truths in a refreshingly simple way; finding new meaning in a flower, a beautiful sky or a child's simple comment. Her honesty as she looks within herself is refreshing and at the same time profound. Very happy to have discovered this gem.

Very Inspiring
I am totally enjoying, actually savoring, this read. I relate to Sue's journey and find her insights delightful. There are some reviews that complain she is approaching this from a heavily Christian perspective and, being a Christian, I am happy with her clarity in purpose. There are many of us trying to find our paths of discipleship in the confusion of this modern world. We often feel stifled by those who would rather approach spiritual awareness without including God. If you're on that path - this is not the book for you. But if you're trying to connect with a loving Lord who's mindfully reaching out to you, this is a great guide.

The Journey
Although the language of this book is a bit dated, it expresses the interior journey very well.

God's Joyful Surprise
Very inspiring book to read, especially during Lockdown time. I could associate with her busyness but love the way she shared her journey and making washing dishes, sweeping floors etc a time of communicating with The All in All.

She is delighted with it and has been subsequently passing it around ...
I read this book many years ago, and had bought it again recently for a friend. She is delighted with it and has been subsequently passing it around her acquaintance. (I wonder why it's not on Kindle?)This author has the ability to take us with her on her psychological and spiritual journey with great humour and humility. An easy, but unforgettable read.

Sadly blighted
Well written but sadly blighted by some unbiblical teaching, particularly on prayer.
