Hall, Charles A. The Fairfield Fiddle Farm: Fiddle Book 1 Violin and Piano Fairfield Fiddle Farms

I became acquainted with this book when my kids were little and playing in a fiddle group organized by the Buffalo Suzuki Strings.Since then, I have used it to play with local jam sessions and liked it so much that I have some of my private violin students learning songs from it. The piano part is written below the violin part, so this book works well with families that have players on both instruments. The tunes are very authentic and lots of double stops are introduced, especially in book 2. This enables the violinist to sound like two violins playing in harmony together, and produces a great effect. The book 1 songs are very easy, and include a wide range of fiddle tunes, even some waltzes. Some of the book 2 songs are harder arrangements of book 1 songs and some are new songs entirely. I have many different fiddle books in my repertoire, but some of my most favorite arrangements are in the Fiddle Farm books.I taught violin for 32 years in the public schools and now teach privately and play in 4 symphony orchestras and weekly country music jam sessions. I think the two best songs in these books are the Orange Blossom Special and the Mocking Bird.

Easy to read.

I love this book. I'm an adult student who has only been taking classical violin lessons for a year but I have an "enlightened" teacher who uses the Essential Strings and the Suzuki books but also has me learning songs from the Fairfield Fiddle Farm Book.

This has been such a motivating book for my beginning violinist. Fun, easy fiddles. Piano part is right in the book and very fun to put with the violin.

My violin teacher is working with me on this book and the place where I take lessons use a lot of the music in here to jam so hopefully I will be able to participate by using this book.

my kids have so much fun playing these pieces i'm having a hard time getting them to practice susuki! they're so fun for me to listen to, too!
