Very Decent thriller
The crucifix killer is the first part of the Robert Hunter series and I honestly had no idea what to expect. I heard and saw great reviews of his books so when the reading club I joined started reading this book, I couldn't resist and ahd to join the party. The book is written from multiple perspectives. One of them being Robert Hunter, one of them being Garcia and some of them being the victims of the serial killer. The different perspectives makes the book fun to read and gives some fluctuation to the story. Over all, this is a very decent story which is very much worth reading through. I am used to reading thrillers in Dutch so for me it was a bit tougher to get through the book. And before anyone wants to tell me these books ere available in Dutch, I know, I know. I wanted to give myself challenge of reading in English and also to have the experience to read a book in it's original language. I must say it didn't disappoint me, but it was a bit harder and I went throug hthe book a lot slower. So I'm wondering what it would have been like reading this book in Dutch. Nevertheless I enjoyed reading the Crucifix Killer. For me, personally, the start and ending of the book were the strongest. The beginning of the book starts from the point of view of one of the victimes and then continues from Hunters' perspective when he enters a gruesome murderscene. The tension is big straight away. After that, Carter tries to keep the tension in de book but for me, the happening alone won't do it. The officers and detectives just can't seem to grasp what the killer is doing and why and so it feels like they're on a wild goose chase the entire book without any progress. That's the feeling Carter wants you to have and it worked, but it also made the story somewhat slow and hard to swallow at some points because there is no single way to guess or imagine what's going on. The ending however was good. I did not see coming who the killer was. It was a great plottwist to find out and also a little bit scary to find out that someone so 'close' could be that kind of person. I get why Carter chose this killer and how he went about it. I do however prefer to have some kind of lead or hint towards the person and now, all the information came in the last 20 pages, which was a lot to process and seemed a little bit out of nowhere.I think Carter writes great thrillers. I do love the story but I think I just love the chase and closing in on someone or at least having a hunch instead of feeling so in the dark the whole time. I am very much interested in the rest of the series and I am very excited to keep reading!Even though this wasn't my best read thriller, I really did enjoy the gruesome details, the characters (I love Hunter - Gives me Dr. Spencer Reid vibes, only then stronger and more masculin), the plottwists and the motive behind all the murders. Very good found storyline.i also want to add that in the end of the book, they give a preview of the second part of the series and again, it starts of the same as this part of the series. I love the consistency and I also greatly appreciate how gruesome that preview was. Job wel done Carter, you know how to be one of a kind in how hirrific you make crimescenes. For me, The Crucific Killer receives 3,5 stars!~ Live Your Life Reading
