this thing was amazing. there were countless times that my ailing mother ...
This thing appeared to be a bit cheesy when I first figured out how to set it up. The off on (3 choices - lights, sound, and lights & sound together) is too flimsy, not enough click to keep the options separate as you slide it to each option. Still, when the switch is in place ( I kept it at sound - later it got stuck on lights and sound and when I replaced the batteries, it went back to staying in each place - small switch in center). BUT, that said, this thing was amazing. there were countless times that my ailing mother was able to press her button (nice big one and light to wear around her neck) and the chimes came in LOUD and clear. I was able to immediately go downstairs to assist her. I live in my folks house and took care of her for quite some time before she passed. Because, toward the end of her life, she often took tumbles or needed help getting around, she used this often and I was able to keep her on track. This thing can literally be a life saver for elderly people, when they don't want or need Life Alert to call 911 all of the time. If another caretaker or two live withing 500 ft. (YES, this really DOES work when button is pressed - even if you at the next door neighbor's house, inside (they are 200 ft. or so in distance). My father took the box about a half of a mile down the road and he still heard the chime and turned his truck around. Amazing. It is an even better value because it comes with TWO buttons and they both work at the same time. I was able to give one to Dad also. Figuring how to set this up is a bit tricky; with that and the somewhat flimsy button, I would give this 4 stars, but the thing really does work. If the company could improve the option switch, this the best thing for anyone who needs to get immediate contact when they are unable to use a phone (as it was in Mom's case, toward the end). The price is right, can't thank the company enough; it really saved me and my dad much potential grief!

Wish for better instructions and accurate syncing but, not so much...
I was hoping for a GREAT replacement for a set of 2 "caregiver" buttons I purchased from Amazon a little over a year ago -- they just hit the pike, new batteries did nothing to help, unfortunately. This SHOULD be a better product as it has both lights AND sounds. You can select emergency sounds (think: police siren types of noises) or "melody" sounds (some are songs, one is a train chugging, one is a doorbell...). There are volume controls and the ability to select sounds only, lights only or sounds + lights. It SHOULD have been better...The instructions are pretty lacking. While the buttons do come with the CR2032 batteries necessary, it took me about 10 minutes to figure out why the receiver wouldn't sync to them. You have to get a tiny screwdriver and take out the screw on each, remove the back and pull a clear tab out from under the batter so that it makes contact and transmits the signal to the receiver. A nice feature so that you're sure to get a fresh battery but, really, how much time or ink would it have taken to add that important step in there? The volume is CRAZY LOUD regardless of choosing sounds or melodies. I am putting the receiver in the next room because I will jump out of my skin every time my husband rings if I don't.While I was able to select the doorbell "melody" for the blue button, the red button keeps reverting back to a digital bugle playing Revelry at that ridiculously high volume -- I may not be able to ever give that second button to the hubby if I can't figure out how to make a swap on the tones. I can't live with the bugle. The packaging was good. The delivery was prompt and the product looks precisely how it did on the product page on Amazon.com. I'll post an update later when I figure out what's really up with that red button unit...

Great, with some caveats..
I have purchased 3 sets over the last 2 years. In 2015 I purchased 2 sets of these, put away one set of remotes as backups, and synced the 2 receivers to the first set of remotes. Everything worked perfectly, and my dad was able to use them to page me no matter where in the house or yard I was. Range is fantastic, even reaches across the street to my neighbour's house. I ended up modifying the backup transmitter to have a more sensitive button on a cord as my dad lost mobility in his arms and hands. Still works perfect, great range, etc.A month or so ago I purchased another set so that I could place a receiver in my shop. At this time I decided to go ahead and replace his current transmitter with the new one. During testing we found that the newer version transmitter does not reach anywhere near as far as the original version. The old transmitter set off all 3 receivers:1) living room, around 40' straight line distance through walls2) back apartment, around 75' straight line distance through walls3) shop, around 80' straight line distance through 2 walls and open airThe new transmitter sets off the one in the living room.If you have the old version and the transmitters work, keep them. the receiver still works fine and you can always just use the batteries from the new remotes, and the housings if the old housings are grubby.
