Bamboozled by Jesus: How God Tricked Me into the Life of My Dreams

best book
Love the Bible references, the down to earth, friend to friend writing style. I sent my daughter the book. Never did that before. A great reference book to re-read as a reminder that in life, God is in control, we need to take the time to listen to Him.

Highlights, Notes, and Mantras. Oh my!
This book is just what I needed. I loved the way that Yvonne told her story while weaving in stories from The Bible, Da Good Book, as she called it. It was not "too religious" where its not practical and that is what I also enjoyed. There are so many highlights and notes on my copy because I revisit this book often. There are mantras or confessions that are also apart of my daily routine. I already loved Yvonne Orji and her Black Girl Magic but now I admire her so much more. Although she is a certified star and I am not, our stories were so similar and I gleaned so much! Do yourself a favor and read this book for yourself or choose it for your book club! Either way, read it now!

Transparent and Timely!
This is a really good read whether you are just beginning your faith walk, in the middle, or more seasoned. The clear message for me was Yvonne's obedience- it's the thing that stood out the most. The writing seems to be geared more toward millennials but I would recommend it to anyone. Because of the way she chooses to compare Bible stories to modern-day quotes and "sayings" you may need to go back and read certain things once or twice- and it was just a tad overdone. Nonetheless, I was incredibly inspired and would easily recommend this to anyone. She stayed the course and did not let anyone or anything deter her from her walk with Jesus. Very, very inspiring.

Such a Good Read!
I must say I decided to take this book on vacation this week and I am reading it each morning. I haven’t even gotten into Part I of this book and I’m hooked! I absolutely LOVE the way I can relate to Yvonne in this book. She is funny, engaging, a straightforward, and most of all REAL. I have chuckled at her use of dialect because I am just like that. I guarantee you won’t be disappointed in this book!

If you want to be encouraged!
After the first few chapters, I had to stop underlining because I was underlining the whole book! I absolutely LOVED the way scripture pours out of Yvonne, and her ability to mix it with contemporary lyrics is unmatched, refreshing, and a rare skill. The Word cannot pour out that naturally from someone who doesn’t soak in it consistently, and Yvonne’s faithfulness is evident in this book.I understood every single reference she made, and there were times when I burst out laughing, times when her words cut right to my heart, and times when I felt so unbelievably seen and encouraged. If you are a first generation Nigerian (or African) American, who didn’t choose the DLE route (doctor, lawyer, engineer), this book will help you feel heard, advocated for, and not alone. It’s a reassuring confidence that God truly is at work in our Spirit led rebellion, and doing something new in our lives and family. It is clear that Yvonne not only knows who her audience is, but she too has embraced who she is and was created to be to the fullest, and her presence in this world in turn liberates others to fully embrace who they were created to be.In case you can’t tell, I HIGHLY recommend & I’m grateful for this book!

I don’t love the writing style
I like Yvonne Orji but I really didn’t like this book.It wasn’t the content (even though that was hard to get to for this reason) but the style of writing.I found it jarring.Just like Shonda Rhine’s Year of Yes, which was also a disappointing read. And because of this jarring style of writing, I couldn’t finish the book.I genuinely tried but gave up after chapter 6.The thing is the book is written just as Yvonne talks but I just didn’t expect it to be so literally in her voice - complete with deliberate misspellings and pronunciations. If you’re in your teens, early twenties maybe, and down with “street” culture, you’ll probably love this book.If you don’t fit this bill - and you’re not a diehard Yvonne fan - this may not be your best purchase.

Well done, Yvonne
Extremely funny and inspiring. You have to believe in the supernatural aka. God a little bit otherwise you’re just lie wtf. But I love Yvonne, her honesty, and energy.

The book that took me to another level
This book is so amazing in the sense that it doesn’t talk down on you. You don’t need to be a follower of Christ for years or even be one for starter.Thank you Yvonne Orji for having the courage to live the life you were called to live. That’s what makes hero. But we can all be <3
