Fun Classic Game with Modern Update
I loved this game when I was younger and so was excited to get it for the Switch. Both the 1st and 2nd games with some quality of life adjustments to make playing all the extra levels etc easier and less of a slog. Graphics update misses some of the unqiue charm of the first game and I do miss Olaf's original outfit but still great to still be able to play this game in 2025.

Excellent re-make of a near perfect gameboy advance game
When I bought this game, I had already played both of these games multiple times, so I was familiar with all the missions. However, the remake has given these games a new lease of life for me. And made two of my favourite games even better. Designing your own maps and then playing against your friends is great as well, and is a feature that gives this excellent game near limitless re-playability.

Exceptional strategy combat
I'd not played the original Advance Wars games for the old Gameboy Advance back in the day but I had played 'Dual Strike' on the Nintendo DS. I have been blown away by how good these Advance Wars remakes are. The characters and style is all a bit cutesy but the gameplay is second to none. In classic Nintendo style the difficulty curve is spot on - it feels challenging but you can always see a way forward or see what you could have done differently to succeed. Winning (or losing) a battle feels like the result of the tactics you apply and is therefore a win is really satisfying.I played on 'Classic' mode, which is the original difficulty and felt this was spot on. There is a 'Casual' mode as well, which is good for kids. You can unlock a further 'Challenge' mode by completing each game. This game is a great deal for two top-notch strategy games. Each game can take around 30-40 hours to finish (which sounds daunting but you'll be hooked so won't notice). On top of that there are loads of additional challenge maps and multiplayer maps (online and local). One of the best games on the Nintendo Switch in my view.

A good remake
This game is a great remake of the gameboy advance classics, advance wars 1 & 2, with impressive yet simple graphics, slightly improved gameplay with QOL improvements. Would absolutely recommend if you loved the originals.

A classic remade.
Loading times are a bit out of place, But beyond that it’s everything you’d expect from this Gem.

Amazing games, but an underwhelming remake
A strange "reboot" to be honest. The core games are, of course, amazing, but there are better ways to revisit these classics than through this package. For starters imo the revamped art style completely strips away the charm of the originals, replacing it with an iPad style blandness, which is strange, as WayForward (who developed the remakes) are usually very good with 2D sprite work. Comparing levels I'd just played with footage of the originals on YouTube, I couldn't help thinking that the 16-bit look had far more character. Then there’s the lack of meaningful quality-of-life improvements. I last played AW1 on the Wii U Virtual Console, where a very simple concept such as save states made a huge difference. There are no save states in this version. In AW2, some missions can last an hour and have repetitive early turns, and without save states, it’s just tedious to replay those bits if you can feel the ebb of the games slipping away from you and so decide to yield. All you get here is a turn reset button—helpful but very limited. On top of that, the yield and reset buttons share the same input for confirming actions, which, thanks to a weird delayed text animations, often leads to you button mashing to work through the menus and then accidentally cancelling the request - it's a small thing but just careless UI design—very un-Nintendo-like.There are also a couple of annoyances that, whilst not game-breaking, show a lack of polish from WayForward. CO special powers come with long animations showing every affected unit, which, after a few times, gets frustrating—especially when you know your already battered army is about to take another beating. In AW2, selecting COs for missions is tricky since you don’t know what the map or objectives are until after you’ve picked. This was true of the original, but it feels like a missed opportunity to improve the experience.Don’t get me wrong—these games are brilliant. I just can't shake the feeling that this remake lacks TLC, polish and ambition. Given the choice, I’d rather replay the originals with save states than go through this version again. It's 3*s from me.

War game with simple mechanics
This game revisits the storyline of the original advance wars and advance wars: black hole rising games on the gameboy advance released in 2001 and 2003 respectivelyThe gameplay itself is solid and enjoyable, with a decent amount of complexity if you really want to get into it. The gameplay is very similar to titles such as wargroove
