Merlin and the War of the Dragons [DVD]

It's a bitter, damp and chilly day--too brisk to play outdoors with the kitties, and my brain is too foggy from my aching bones to concentrate on my latest 'Dresden Files' series by Jim Butcher. What to do? It's a perfect day for a mindless movie! And nothing can fit the bill better than "Merlin and the War of Dragons." It was great. The cast, God bless them, was from a time where humanity accepted themselves--no face lifts, dental work, makeup, perfect womanly curves or manly muscles...very refreshing. And the story is the classic good versus evil. Merlin studies under an elder mage with another young man. There is a departing of ways when the mage refuses to hand over the book of secrets to Merlin's peer. The peer learns how to magically coerce dragons to obey his evil will in order to fulfill his desire for world domination. Merlin works on the side of good to save the Britain from being slaughtered. It held my interest very well. I truly enjoyed the movie--it was exactly what I needed today. Who says a movie has to cost a gazillion dollars to be worth watching? So, sue me--I'm not a cinema snob. And perhaps those with open minds will enjoy this brief escape as well.

"Merlin and the War of the Dragons" is a wonderful film. I can add little to what the others have said. I do know that the movie felt realistic in its portrayal of a low-fantasy, magic-poor, Dark Age England. A complex yet engaging script, no cursing, no nudity, great acting --- is this really an Asylum movie?I am sure that the movie contains anachronisms, but they don't distract. Fantasy armor, peasant clothing, funny English accents all work well with the film. The CGI dragons are not intrusive. Some of the spell effects are weak-looking, but this is a low-magic time. The swordfights are also a little stilted and fake-looking. Overall, the movie is at least a four-star movie.Sadly, the movie has neither commentary nor DVD extras.

I enjoyed the story and looked past some of the not so great acting.

This movie was with out a doubt one of the worst movies I've ever seen. It is along the same caliber as really poor written/acted/directed/produced cheesy SciFi movies that have laughable effects. We are science fiction fans and have watched many, many horrific movie of the week productions on SciFi but had trouble sitting through this movie.The movie started out fine, I'd say the first 15 minutes were tolerable. But then it starts making weird storyline jumps and you wonder "well how did he get there" or "where did that come from." My husband and I sat wondering what the heck was going on! The plot line is vague and just seems to be missing most of the story. The acting is just plain AWFUL. The effects were as bad as we expected them to be.We started drinking at the beginning of the movie and got wasted by the end of the movie and honestly, that made it really funny and was the only redeeming quality of it. It's a hilarious film to watch if you are drunk. We added quite a bit of missing dialog with our drunkenly witty commentary and banter.I pity the person that actually buys this DvD, I pity myself for renting it using the Video on Demand service and paying $3.

If you are a fantasy fan this is great. The viewers who only gave it 1 or 2 stars obviously don't like fantasy

Jurgen Prochnow lowers himself to act in this lame film. The good news is MOST of the CGI isn't that bad. Then again, just when you see something good, something a 5th Grader may have made shows up.

This is a good story of Merlin's begining. Worth watching if you are into dragons and Merlin.

A young Merlin in a pretty good story and an ending that allows for a sequel.

CD ist angekommen, muss noch geschaut werden

Hätte ich vorab diese Beurteilungen gelesen, wäre mir dieser grottenhaft schlechte Film erspart geblieben. Die 5 Sterne Beurteiler lieben es wahrscheinlich dass Merlin über geteerte Straßen reitet, ........ich nicht. Schade, der Titel versprach wesentlich mehr. Selbst mein Sohn war geschockt über diesen schlecht gedrehten Film. Einfach nur BILLIG.

Ich kann mich meinem Vorredner nur anschließen!!!Der Film ist echt billig gemacht und es lohnt sich einfach nicht das Geld für die DVD auszugeben.Die Story ist eigentlich ganz gut und mit ein paar mehr Effekten und besseren Schauspielern wäre der Film wirklich sehenswert, aber durch ein Low-Budget-Aussehen und echt schlecht animierten Drachen ist es eher eine Qual als eine Freude diesen Film zu schauen.

Es ist gut und es gefällt mir und bin vollauf zu frieden ich würde es bei den Verkaufter wieder bestellen.Gruß aus KölnJürgen
