Does the job well
I purchased this to record video from a DSLR along with audio form a Tascam field recorder. This has worked out well as I feed the Tascam audio from the headphone jack into the input on this recorder. Recorded Quality is very good, and the remote is super handy to start and stop recordings. This can be used as a media player or even to schedule recordings as well. The only feature I'd like that I can't see how to do is change the sort order of displayed clips.

Works... kinda?
Stopped working within 24 hours fully. This item's use in my setup is to split the Audio and Video coming from my Roku Premiere. It shows a picture for the splash screen, then blanks out.Bypassing the box remedies the problem, leading me to believe the box is the issue. The included instructions were laughably sparse in troubleshooting tips.

Great Concept, Poor Execution
Love the concept. Split the HDMI signal into audio and video feeds, then send the audio to a proper HT receiver for glorious stereo or surround sound. Love the execution- not so much. It kinda works... sometimes. I set the unit up as the sparse instructions instructed on my Sony Blu Ray player. Actually, setup is easy and straightforward. So far, so good. Put in Star Trek Beyond, Blu Ray Version, and fired it up. The portion of the disc where you decide to play, set up, select a scene, etc. runs a loop of movie preview. The sound was fantastic. Couldn't wait to begin watching. Until I started playback and... nothing. Silence. I unmuted the TV soundbar and the sound from that source came through. Nothing through the HT setup. Several tries, same result. Movie preview- sound. Movie- silence. I then popped in the Blu Ray version of Prometheus, watched it all the way through, and the sound was perfect. Bad Star Trek Disc? No.Over the course of several days, I tried other discs, both Blu Ray and standard DVD. I really wanted this product to work. Alas, it did not. The Amazon review Q & A section did not address my issue, and mysteriously is disabled for new questions. An internet search likewise was fruitless.Rather than returning it, I reached out to the seller via email, detailing my experience and asking for help. After one business day (good), I received this response: " Please waiting few hours ,I have sent this to technical person, please waiting patiently,I am so sorry for the inconvenience caused to you." Ok, good that the company apologized, albeit in somewhat broken English. I took the first part of the reply to mean they would get back to me in a few hours. That is a good thing. However, here I am 3 days later, no further response. Disillusioned, I am now looking at Blu Ray players with RCA audio out plugs, at a cost of at least several hundred dollars. I will likely return the unit unless the company comes up with a resolution to the issue.Update 02/06/2017: The company, Udigital, got back to me and again apologized for the delay. They also gave me the fix- change the audio setting in the Blu Ray player to PCM. Now the unit works beautifully. As a result I upped the number of stars to 4. One star still taken away for the operating manual, which has a troubleshooting section (which they call "FAQ") but is skimpy and does not cover this issue. If the tech person knew right away what was wrong, it should be included in the manual, especially in the "FAQ" section. Very satisfied now with the product.

It works so well that I don't know it's there!
I'm very happy with the device, without it, I would not have been able to purchase my new AppleTV (Sorry Amazon, I've been locked into iTunes from day one!) Anyway, with my main receiver down for the count, my old receiver which is only capable of optical audio input became my primary audio device. Apple, in their infinite wisdom, decided to do away with optical out on the new generation 4 AppleTV, bless their pointed little heads. The Udigital devise was exactly what I needed. It works seamlessly and is complete unobtrusive.

Small foot print
I got this for my Play station 4 and some speakers I had were RCA jacks it work fine the only thing is you need light weight HDMI Cables because of the small size of the converter and the way of the I/O and power supply its hard to place on flat surface with heavy cables.

I love the time frame in which it got there and it works. Just doesn't push out the sound as loud as I would like it.

Great product for HDMI projector install!
This device worked great for what I needed. I used it to separate the HDMI video and the audio for a projector system that I installed at my local church. I would highly recommend this product.

HDMI to HDMI + audio is false claim
From Chromecast (or any other casting device), it cannot separate HDMI video and audio.

Has one job (extracting audio from HDMI signal) and it does it well
Why I Bought ItI have a setup with a 7.1 receiver feeding a pair of stereo speakers. I don't really care for surround, but the problem is my receiver sounds really quiet even at max volume when extracting audio from the incoming HDMI signal. I got fed up messing with the various audio modes (virtual surround, etc.) and the settings and trying to get it louder (I suspect the cause of my problems was that it was processing surround and not downsampling to stereo. So because I don't have a center channel, everything sounded quieter than normal).I basically put this box downstream from my HDMI switcher to downsample any surround signals into stereo and have my receiver take the audio inputs from the L/R RCA jacks instead of the HDMI signal. It works like a charm. My source content is now MUCH louder than it was before. The Good Parts* Passes through HDCP content from my Roku* Optical and RCA outputs* Three modes, pass through, 5.1 and stereo downsample* To my eyes, I can't see* Comes with power adapter* Solid metal construction -- feels like a brick* InexpensiveQuibbles* None that I can think of. It has one job and does it well.

Works as advertised. I would've given it 5 stars except there's a loud pop from the speakers when the input device is turned on. I have to ensure I power up the speakers last to avoid this issue. It's a trifle really and would be nothing at all if I had a sound system with a remote.

No good
Didn't output 5.1 surround sound, just stereo and choppy video. Ensured all settings and cables were correct. The box only worked if the switch was set to 5.1...only no surround.
