The good and the bad of the AC1750 (G1100) Verizon Quantum router.
After reading threads about this router and seeing where some people like it and some don't, there are reasons for that. Where any router is placed has the most effect on how well it works or doesn't. I bought this router for 2 reasons. One to get an extra good 5 Ghz channel and to get better performance than my old Verizon router, which seemed to get worse in performance when my neighbor switched from Verizon back to Comcast. Verizon just didn't work for them with all their Apple devices. I could no longer get Netflix on my Smart Samsung TV when my neighbor changed back. I hooked back up my real old Verizon router as a wired Access Point. That no longer would work either, as my more recent router (6 years old) wasn't doing the job any longer either. I purchased and received the FIOS Quantum Gateway router and proceeded to install it. Ignore the instructions that make it seem like connect and Go. Like other reviews indicate you have to call Verizon Tech Support and get them to release your old router and enable the new one. When you call Verizon, hope you get a tech that knows what he or she is doing. I got Willy or Billy (could not understand which he was saying). Billy tried sending the required signal to the new router; but it would start and fail 3 or 4 times. Billy said the connection was intermittent and there was a bad cable. I assured him the cable was good and indicated I was tech savvy. That did not stop him from reading the trouble-shooting directions, so I finally started to say, just after a little wait time, that I had done what he said to do. I did nothing waiting for him to catch-up. Billy starting saying the router was bad because I had not bought it from Verizon; and he could not get it set up right. I assured him it was a valid Verizon router sold on-line. Billy finally got the "Green" light on his end when he reset the connection back at the distribution center. There are 2 white lights on the front of the router: one the "world" and the other the typical "WiFi icon". Both are white when everything is set right by Verizon. After over an hour or more with Billy on the phone all was working. Now for the performance results. The router only was marginally better than the old one; but Netflix still did not work. Where the router is placed is probably the most important performance driver. Mine for years had been in the basement in the farther est corner from the smart TV, but worked. As the neighborhood began using more and more WIFI with people working from home, the interference got worse. My solution was to move the router from the basement to the above ground floor (first floor) to my office. Before finishing off the basement I had pre-wired some rooms in the house with coax for TV or now for a router. The Quantum Router is thin with no external antennas. (You need to have a hard coax connection to the Verizon FIOS conversion box to the Router for this to work.) Moving the router was the best solution and everything works great. I will update later after some run time. Now why was this soo effective after so many years. First, interference from other WiFis is less of an issue since the whole house signal is much stronger and faster for streaming and less obstructed. My house is basically a frame 3 story structure counting the basement which has cement walls, steel reinforced. Like many houses built in the last 20 years, it has two big I-beams and plenty of HVAC duct work in the basement. These 3 items (cement, I-Beams & Duct-work) affect signal conduction as well as interfere with the WiFI signal (s) paths. So one bottom line as to why some people like this router and some don't get much performance improvement is that the router placement is very important. Now how did I know what the problems were and how to fix it; I will confess I am an engineer. I have tried to keep this from being technical. Lessons learned: you must have patience with the Verizon Techs; some are great and some are in-training. When trouble shooting router problems, take a laptop to where the router is so Verifying WiFi is working is much easier. Hope your results are great without having to move the router to higher level. For some of us, you won't know until you try it. I am running 25/25 up and down load internet speeds. We have 6 internet connected devices on our WiFI: 2 cell phones, 1 Kindle, 1 Alexa, 2 printers, and 1 Smart TV. We do not need to pay Verizon for higher speed Quantum rates so the new router improved all so far. If I had increased the speed while the router was in the basement, the interference problems would not have changed. Good Luck!

Twice the speed as my old router
I decided to upgrade from the Verizon Actiontec M1424WR with the red strip on the side since the amount of wireless device in my household tends to multiply with every birthday and Christmas and I've noticed a significant change in online speed. Very easy setup with the Frontier G1100. I preferred to turn it on without connecting the coax, connect a computer to it, via wireless or CAT 6, then login as administrator and change the SSID and password to the same as the router I was replacing. Then remove all cables from the old router and connect them to the new and everything on the network reconnected seamlessly. My plan with Verizon includes 75MB up and down. I used the SpeedTest app on a iPhone SE connected to the 5GHz side and got an average of 85mbps up and down which is the same results from a gaming computer I built which is connected via CAT 6 and twice the speed I was getting wirelessly with the Actiontec router. The speed drops on the 5GHz side if I move to a different floor than the router which is expected since 5GHz doesn't have the distance of 2.4GHz which stays consistent throughout my close to 5000 sq. ft. house. My initial plan was to connect the new router for the family and use the old one just for me but somehow the two router tend to merge the two networks so that didn't work. But then I'm not at all disappointed since my speed has doubled so I'm loving it and would definitely recommend the Frontier FiOS Gateway Router G1100-FT to anyone with Verizon FiOS. I LOVE IT!

Works great-updated review
Now owned this item for a couple years. Frontier sent a tech when I upgraded my internet speed for full streaming TV. Though the router says Verizon, he said nothing negative, did the work outside the house and checked the performance. It's a really good router. Better than the previous by far.I always wonder at electronic reviews. I did a bunch of trick things to this router and the second before running ethernet wire the length of the house and placing the second, bridged, router behind the TV for ethernet connection to several devices there. Perfect world. WiFi is NOT your friend. No matter the router, you lose sooo much with WiFI.Wanted to upgrade the FIOS internet to 100/100 from 50/50. Required a technician to change something on the ONT box outside the house.I was replacing the Actiontek W454 which is a single-channel unit but which had worked well. This model is touted as having better range. Not sure that's the case but it's no worse. Our modem/router is way back in the house in the laundry room and I use two range extenders throughout the house. It should be noted that wife reception will never be as high as ethernet hard wired. When I hard wire into my laptop, I receive speeds actually in excess of the 100/100 I pay for. Wifi in the same room is well past 60 up and 70 down. The good news, I guess, is that wifi at the furthest point and through a range extender is over 30 down and 35 up. About double what I was getting. I should say it seems to depend upon which speedtest you use.Still, for the savings of the $10 a month, it will pay for itself in 10 months.I changed the SSID names on both channels as well as the passcodes very easily.
