Red pepper spoon rest trivet in ceramic with Majoilica glaze. ~ 3 1/4 inches by 3 1/4 inches tall. ~ Handmade with details in the painterly style of watercolor in red, rutile and cobalt blue detail outlines. ~The construction process: Red earthenware terra-cotta clay is rolled out into a slab then hand cut with a needle tool from the slab into the pepper shape, then it is smoothed with a damp sponge, dried and bisque fired in Momma kiln. ~ The decorative Majolica glaze process: The pepper is dipped into a special white glaze, covering the red color of the clay on the front, wax is placed on the back of the piece. When the white glaze is dried, using a watercolor brush and special stains and oxide colors mixed with water to create the detailed designs and textures of the open pepper. The piece is fired again. When cool it is ready for use!
