Amazing story and illustrations
The story is very well written. I used this story to make a sound story for my 5th grade music classes and they loved it!

Blancaflor's story is great and so is the art in this graphic novel
'Blancaflor, the Hero with Secret Powers: A Folktale from Latin America' by Nadja Spiegelman with art by Sergio Garcia Sanchez is a graphic novel of a classic fairytale from Latin America.Blancaflor has an ogre for a dad, so when a handsome prince challenges him, Blancaflor knows that her dad won't fight fair. The prince claims he has luck, but he is just lucky that he met Blancaflor.Blancaflor's magic objects are the objects of women's work in indigenous cultures. I loved reading about her and the art is really fun. Recommended for young readers and older ones who still like fairytales (like me).

2nd in an ongoing series of Folktales from Latin America
Blancaflor is the second book in the Folktales from Latin America series, with the first being titled The Dragon Slayer. Blancaflor is the daughter of a wicked ogre-like father. She has a mom and two daughters. Her dad is trying to trick the prince into making a bet he cannot win, so the dad can have the prince's kingdom. The prince is oblivious to Blancaflor helping him with all his impossible tasks and thinks he is just lucky. (He's not very bright.) She runs away from her family and was on the verge of what appeared to be suicide, but the prince overheard her talking about being the one who saved him, so he wised up and married her. This was an interesting fairy tale, perhaps because it was not one I was used to hearing, as it is not native to me. The illustration style was interesting and unique in nature. What I really enjoyed though was the introductory and concluding text that provided cultural context as well as similar fairy tales to this one that non-Latin American people might recognize, opposed to this one.
