The Ariel Plus 85 is one of our largest volume women's-specific packs with a stronger LightWire frame for long trips or gear-heavy adventures. A stable close-to-body carry can manage the heaviest of loads, even when the trail gets technical. Featuring Custom Fit-On-The-Fly Hipbelt and Shoulder Strap to calibrate the perfect fit. A full-range of features, like a removeable DayLid daypack, Stow-on-the-Go trekking pole attachment and reliable high-tenacity durable nylon fabrics make life on the trail easier. Constructed with high quality bluesign®-approved high-tenacity nylon and PFC-free DWR. The framesheet maintains comfortable back contact with ventilated airflow channels and maximum stability for carrying heavy loads while the mesh-covered foam lumbar creates supportive, lightweight and comfortable contact surfaces. The extendible hipbelt allows for incremental length and angle adjustments which adds a fine-tuned fit for varying waist sizes. The Crossbody ErgoPull hipbelt pulls the pack weight into the lumbar when hipbelt is tightened for a better distribution of weight and, in turn, a better carry.

Extra pockets, a daylid, and trekking pole loop. Side pockets are crossed by compression straps.
This is a very nice bag that I like a lot except for the side pockets. The compression straps cut right across the pockets so if you are in and out of the pockets while you're hiking, you are constantly fiddling with the straps or just ignoring them entirely. I use water bottles and I also like to keep my stove fuel outside of my main compartment, so my prefect backpack has bottle friendly side pockets, unencumbered by compression straps. Sure, carrying liquid on the sides widens the load and makes me a bit less agile, but that's been my preferred MO since the 1970s. If you're like me then you'll want to find a different pack.Beyond the side pocket issue, I would note that this very large capacity bag weighs in at a hefty 6.08 lbs. Make sure you really need that kind of capacity because it is a pound or two heavier than medium capacity backpacks. Some of that weight probably comes from the added pockets and zippers on the front panel as well as the detachable daylid (backpack built into the lid). The quality of the build (sewing and fabric strength) and the ease of access are great. I find that the sleeping bag compartment requires a fairly compressible bag because the lower part of the internal frame intrudes a lot into the compartment. The fabric and strap colors are great, maybe the best of the Osprey line. The Ariel line is women specific. I strongly recommend that you try the backpack on in person because some women find the equivalent men's backpacks (the Aether line) to be a better fit. The difference between the two, as best as I can tell, is in a shorter torso (distance from the hip belt to the top of the shoulders) and shorter shoulder straps. The shoulder straps are also not as wide (individually) and I'd say, not as comfy. Your mileage will vary so it's important you give it a test ride in the store.

Well balanced backpack with plenty of compartments
Everything about this oversized backpack was well thought out! Great should padding, a chest strap that is designed for women, well balanced for long hikes. There is ample room to pack for a 4 plus day hike. The water bladder is easily accessible, as it is placed outside of the pack. The shoulder and chest straps can easily be adjusted when the pack is on. Nothing negative on this backpack, well done Osprey!
