Pretty unique, great for heavy rock / metal / noodlin'
TL;DR version: Great little overdrive, well made, clear sound, gets DIRTY -- sounds like if the RAT was an overdrive.Full vrsion:The product seems pretty well made. I didn't open it up to look at the guts but I'd bet some hardcore cash that this gets its sound from diode clipping. The chassis is rugged, it's metal. The knobs seem a tad flimsy but they're freaking knobs, you can always replace them. Pots themselves feel tight which I like -- prevents hitting it with my toe and messing stuff up.JOYO seems to think that having a lot of LED lights is what players want, but that seems like a gimmick. The back has a switch so you can adjust how much LED action you want. Don't really care about that stuff, and I bet you don't either. The actual SOUND is pretty versatile. You can use this as a preamp, at the end of your chain, and then hit it with something like a Klon or a TS808. I tried that and it was pretty fun. You're gonna have the most fun, however, if you use this as a main distortion OR use it to push against something tube that's on the edge of breaking up anyway. It's a surprisingly new sound...the best comparison I can make is if you remember the 90's ProCo RAT II, not the turbo or anything, then you imagine it having the Dynamic and attack response of an overdrive...there ya go. When you go after it it distorts HARD, like gnarly broken soundwaves. When you play light it barely comes into effect. Better than a MXR Distortion+. Also generously boosts volume, so that's a thing.

Gets The Point Over
It's almost unfair to compare it to way more expensive pedals. It Holds up OK but some differences exist in fine nuances. Better or worse is another argument. To throw on a pedalboard for band practice / small stuff you get an OD that can boost to really cut through the tiniest crack. Do check the dimensions (I never) as this is small but even my size 13s can hit the buttons even if I did wonder to start with. The silver dials are perhaps a little cheesy but who cares at this value point as work (probably see me out anyway) and don't forget the switch underneath as it's important if you want things to operate as expected.............. Can't go wrong if just want to be in the zone.
