Great for zest and grating ginger

I'm buying this a second time. I away the first and I was so pleased with the product, that I decided to purchase it again. It's great for those jobs where you are grating a small number of items and don't need use a large one.

I am student in culinary school and I bought this to use in my classes. It is very rough and does not grate smoothly. It fights against the product I try to use on it, especially when I am zesting lemons. Was expecting better quality from the reviews.

Unless mine was very uniformly defective, the "teeth" are way too lifted for this to function as a zester, it will mangle your citrus. You will get chunks of pith and very little zest using this guy. Works ok as a cheese grater (if you need a super thin cheese grater).

Easy to use

I need Lemon Zest to complete recipes. I couldn't effectively get zest with the cooking tools I had in my kitchen. Researched zesters for months, as this was an unfamiliar tool to me, other than seeing TV chefs using it in their cooking, and I was uncertain of what features I wanted. I selected this one, mostly because of the protective shield and the positive reviews. I've used it just a few times now and I haven't cut myself yet ~ yeah and I get zest, so I call the purchase successful. I haven't used it for cheese yet. Features I like: size of handle makes it easy to hold, length makes it easily rest across the top of the bowls I have used so far, zest falls out easily when it's tapped, washes up quickly and easily, protective shield snaps back into place nicely and I like the little black end guards covering the tip. So far, so great. So happy to finally have a zester and glad I picked this one.

I am unfortunately disappointed. This gets jammed up when I use it. It's almost like it's either not sharp enough or the shape of the grating holes isn't right. The covers are also impossible to get on.It is definitely a thin metal, as other reviewers have stated, and very likely to bend. Mine haven't bend yet, but that's because I realized I was reaching it's tension point and backed off. I could feel it. I'm pretty sure if my partner ever uses these they'll just bend in half.For the price, I didn't mind that concern too much. But the problem I have is they don't seem to work. Yes it does grate, but only the first few strokes, then I have to press harder and harder and keep trying to clear it from underneath. I've never had this issue with my other microplane. I don't like it.

As my first zester, this is pretty decent. The protective corners are a little loose though
