I prefer the look of this edition to the 35th Ann. edition
I actually prefer this edition (Anchor Bay) of the movie to the more recent 35th Anniversary edition. The nighttime scenes are easier to see - the 35 ANN. Edition is very dark and overstaurates these scenes with the color blue, making it look like a more modern film. This older transfer has caught some criticism for having too much green in the outside scenes - though this is truer to the look of the original film, it isn't appropriate for a movie that takes place in autumn. It's also true that this edition doesn't have as many extras, but the commentary track with Carpenter, Debra Hill, and Jamie Lee Curtis is one of the best I've ever heard and the 45 minute making of is also surprisingly solid. When I bought this edition, the 35th Ann. edition cost twice as much, so I feel I made the right choice.

The First...The Original...The BEST...
John Carpenter's original HALLOWEEN is by far the best of the series. This "economically" produced horror film started the Slasher Movie craze, made Jamie Lee Curtis a star, and held the record for highest grossing Independent Film for many years. It's become a staple on TV during Halloween season, and has been re-made (badly) by Rob Zombie. There's talk of yet another reboot, but it I doubt another director can recreate the simplicity of the original. It's been done, pretty much perfectly, so just leave it alone...

Great selection for my first horror film!
Super scary and super awesome. My husband is getting me slowly into horror films. I've never watched any horror films before Halloween. Well, aside from the uncontrolled screams on a few occasions, I survived it pretty darn well. I adore Jamie Lee Curtis and here she is at 20 something years old, captivating in her performance. If you haven't seen this, it's a great intro to horror, and as it turns out, a key influence in how horror films started, the murderer without any clear motives, and so on. Well-done! Not sure I'm going to see the sequels though.

A beautiful classic
The 1978 version of Halloween is a classic in every sense of the word. Michael Myers is the perfect horror character as portrayed by Carpenter. He is not well known and he is driven by pure evil. I want to also add that the movie has just a great overall feel from the soundtrack, to the way it was filmed. 5 out of 5 stars, no question.

The Scariest Movie Of All Time!!!
John Carpenter's Halloween, a movie about an escaped psychopath who stalks babysitters on Halloween night, is, was, and will forever be the scariest movie and the best horror movie of all time. With the approach of a new Halloween movie coming October 19, 2018 with Carpenter producing and reinventing his classic score and Jamie Lee Curtis returning to the role that made her a star, its cool to look back on the original. First off, I watch this movie every fall, its tradition at my house. Everything in Halloween is perfect. From the obsessed Dr. Loomis, to the lighting, the direction, the quiet fictional town of Haddonfield, and of course that "Halloween Theme" song that sends chills up your spine just hearing it. Plus a great villain with the Michael Myers character. Michael is way scarier with that white mask and those dark emotionless eyes (the than Jason or Freddy or any other that has followed him. He is the boogeyman. And Halloween is the night He came home.

Love this classic, but stream version is missing scenes.
Love this classic from my childhood. Donald Pleasence is Halloween for me. What a great actor he was. My only complaint here is that in the streaming version, there is at least one scene missing, and it is key. It is in the beginning, Donald Pleasence is meeting with his superiors to explain why Michael Myers should have more security around him and is the essence of evil. It is a powerful dramatic scene, and sets up the premise for the audience. Instead, the film simply cuts from 6 year old Michael to his escape, with no set up of Dr. Loomis, who is he? Why has he been unable to reach Michael? Why is he so concerned? All this is lost without that scene. It is pure Donald Pleasence at his best. Then, there is a scene that follows between Michael and Dr. Loomis, in which Loomis tells Michael he knows Michael has fooled them all, but not him. We paid for the movie Amazon, give it to us. Cheap cut version.

Halloween as it should look
This is the best edition of Halloween. Pay no attention to that 4K Edition. It was just a money grab release. That one got mixed reviews regarding the transfer. The 35th anniversary release : the transfer was supervised by the movie’s Cinematographer , Dean cundey. And I say , this is the best Halloween has looked. Probably better than it looked back in’78.Everything looks just right. Goes to show you if you want it done right , you have to have the ones that were originally involved. This is the one to have.Reason why I’m giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is because my blu-Ray case arrived a little bit beat up. Looks like somebody with a box cutter cut the spine a little. And being one of the blu-Ray cases with the holes inside , some dents in the cover , but no rips. They need to quit with those cruddy cases !

The best American horror film ever made
Halloween was the first American horror film I ever saw, as I had grown up watching brilliant Hammer Horror films and my parents had a trust in Hammer that it would scare me, but never terrify me. Halloween terrified me ( I was only 10). I still watch it every 31st October. A simple tale of an escaped mental patient, twisted slightly so that he becomes more than just a killer. He becomes everything that is scary about a windy, cold dark night, everything that is scary about the dark at the top of the stairs or that noise out the back garden when you're at home on your own. Probably considered tame by today's horror fans, this nevertheless swaps gore for true suspense and does it exceptionally well. A true classic, well worth a purchase. The blu-ray version is crisp and clear, and really does impress. Enjoy!

Finally the real deal...
Halloween.A movie which defines a genre.A Cult Picture,a classic and finally a masterwork. Now for the 35th Anniversary it gets the final edition.Or not? Well after the recent blu ray edition the film was mastered with a new pristine master overlooked by Dean Cundey himself and this version blew me away. Not only is the picture clear as hell the sound got a 7.1 True Hd mix, which makes your neighbor s*** his pants. This version is so stunning i can' put it in words. The next highlight is a brand new Audio Commentary by Carpenter and Jamie Lee Curtis with every detail story you want. The other specials are basically short films about Curtis visiting a fan convention or some views about the locations. So if you never own this classic don't hesitate to buy.If you already purchased the old blu put it under the christmas tree for a friend and get your new copy.

Michael came home
Halloween is one of my all time favourite horror movies, its an original that should be in everybody's collection, horror fan or not. That being said there are better Halloween packages to get, the film itself look great on this blu ray but the extras are for a 35th anniversary edition are very poor, I would have liked to have seen a full length making of or present day interviews with the cast and crew but that's me!
