I just like the stuff
KENKO Matcha- premium Matcha IS DELICIOUS!!!I am no matcha expert, I just like the stuff. I have liked matcha for about 10 years and my personal opinion is: Good matcha is probably one of the best flavors ever. This is great matcha. When I opened it, the first thing I noticed was the smell; it smelled sweet! It was earthy, because it is ground up leaves after all, and there was no hint of seaweed, which you can get with lower grade matcha. The color matched the label. I have tried it hot, cold, with and without a splash of milk. The taste is what I consider what true matcha is supposed to taste like. it is sweet and smooth and makes ice water a bit more refreshing. I keep the matcha in the refrigerator or freezer, but it can be stored in a cupboard.I have used culinary grade matcha like green food coloring, it adds a depth of flavor and doesn't die your mouth colors as you eat the Christmas/St Patrick's Day frosted cupcakes. I use a long time favorite recipe and adding a spoonful has never thrown off the cooking chemistry. You can make muffins, cakes, cookies, ice cream, etc... or just sprinkle a little on top.The Matcha you get at most coffee shops is a Matcha Syrup, if you want that same flavor you will need to add lots of sugar to your drinks.WHY THE PRICE IS WAT IT IS:Regular tea preparation: Pick the leaves, dry the leaves, crunch the leaves, put them in a tea bag.Matcha Tea preparation: Pick the leaves, de-stem the leaves, de-vein the leaves, dry the leaves, powder the leaves. There is extra man power involved in removing the stems and veins, and it takes longer to turn the leaves into a powder.*UPDATE*5 Days ago I received an e-mail, as I do with most products that I order on amazon, asking for a review. Attached was a PDF with information on what the product was, recipes, health benefits, how it's made etc... it was 8 pages long and I have printed it out for future use. All of the information could be found on the KENKO website (One of the reasons I purchased this tea was because they had an informative website) I encourage people to research what matcha is, before purchasing.People, please keep in mind that this product is powdered leaves, not dehydrated drink powder or flavored sugar powder. Real matcha does not disintegrate with water/milk like a chocolate milk mix, it floats in the liquid, if you let your cup sit for a long time it will settle on the bottom. the reason it is so healthy is because you are consuming the whole leaf and not just the water

Can’t tell the difference from culinary grade
It’s the best brand love there product! But I just can’t tell the difference between the two and I honestly prefer the culinary grade the flavor seems more consistent.

Pricey for what you get...
This matcha is amazing!! I purchased matcha from FavaTea before, it DOESN'T even compare to this matcha. This stuff is so much more vibrant and sweet than any store bought (Fava or Teavana) matcha I've ever had, at about the same price as what I would pay there for their stuff. If you are a matcha drinker who is looking for an easier way (and possibly cheaper way) to get quality matcha, I would recommend this product 100% without a doubt. I even tried to get my non-tea drinking friends to like this stuff (and they said it was really good too).UPDATE:After researching other kinds of matcha, this one is definitely not the best for what you get. I purchased a whole pound of matcha for the same price as this AND it tastes sweeter and smoother than this. I'm sad to say I will not be purchasing this again, as the other stuff is way better!

Color is really off
Probably would have given a 5-star, but when ordering, pictures show the powder as being a vibrant bright green. However, the can I received is more of a dull green. It is definitely greener than the culinary ones I have, but no where close to the vibrant bright green as pictured. Tried to take a picture of it and the camera on my phone is making it look more vibrant than it is. Flavor was ok, still needed some sweetener though I need it with most my teas.

Buying again !
This was my first time purchasing this as I am a big black coffee drinker. Well this does not replace my black coffee it definitely is something I enjoy as drinking coffee in the afternoon kept me up at night. The use of this product lives up to everything it says it does not hit as hard as caffeine but it lasts longer. This is a great complement to my morning coffee meeting before 12 noon I’ll drink three or 4 cups of coffee and then in the afternoon if I feel like having some thing that is not gonna keep me up at night this is great. One issue as it does not blend really well but I’m fine with that as I’m not trying to suck down the granules on the bottom of the cup but do you need to keep stirring it throughout the time I’m drinking it which is not a problem just leave the spoon in there spin it up a couple times while drinking - definitely will buy again

Excellent value as a culinary grade matcha!
I'm only reviewing the culinary grade version since that is all I have purchased from Kenko Tea. I use this matcha as an additive to genmai cha, fruit and veggie smoothies, and other concoctions. I found it to be an excellent product to add to other things and give a nice matcha flavor to genmai cha. The culinary grade comes in a nice heavy duty resealable bag which makes it easy to get the air out and store in a cool cupboard to keep it fresh. Been purchasing for over 3 years and the product seems to be the same quality each time. If you are a matcha to drink as a standalone tea, then you should be looking for something other than a culinary grade product. For what I use this for, it is excellent!

Delicious smell and taste. 180 degrees different to culinary grade.
The price and convenience supersedes Ippodo or Grace & Green (both brands I’m itching to try). Just fyi, you must use a sifter and whisk (I use a handheld electric frother) to eliminate clumps and create a smooth cup of beauty. The smell and taste of Kenko ceremonial is incredibly pleasant and sweet and the color a nice, bright green. Mine does not froth that much.....but I am not a matcha nor frothing expert. Matcha is my new morning addiction! No more coffee jitters. i smile after every time I drink it.
