Versatile and it works
Oakum is also used for helping seal/seat certain types of plumbing joints, and this is what I used this product for. It served its purpose and a difficult cast iron/pvc pipe joint is now sealed and holding well. Just for yuks I also used this as a fire starter and was impressed by its effectiveness at getting a fire going. Handy to have, and very lightweight too.

This is an excellent material that combusted easily when used with char cloth and a good, sharp flint. I have just now learned how to use these materials, and I am excited to add to a growing repertoire of camping and survival skills. I recommend this product for those of you who might not have the time or inclination to improvise your own.

Terrific stuff for lighting fires when camping. I heard it was good but wouldn't believe it until I'd tried it. It's great... I've tried it. Good value for the money.

This is a great fire tinder when training first timers on their fire building skills! I teach a Pathfinder youth group and was introduced to this tinder by one of the instructors! Great material !

Works better than anything I have found to get a spark to take flame
I have tried twine, pine needles, sizzle, and jute for fire nesting material. Oakum is the hands down the best.
