When you pick up a knife, and say why... why
First impression. Handle is made for giant hands. I have large hands and it is uncomfortable for me to hold, and I know I will never reach for this knife. I pick it up and it just feels completely wrong in the hand.First the plusses. The blade out of the box is a decent bread knife blade. Not the best bread knife I've used... just average in that it cuts fairly smoothly without overly ripping or shredding the crust or soft bread (like another bread knife I have). The real wood is nice in the handle (if only it was a normal sized handle).Bottom line up here: if you have big hands it might work. If you don't mind that the quality is not on par with the aesthetics. However as it is just a bread knife it should be fine, and aesthetically it is a nice looking blade. Now for the minuses:Pictures online do not show how ridiculous this handle is.I know this is just a bread knife... but HEY, it is not a cheap knife. What is it really? It is a knife made to look good, but with no balance or thought for actual usability, and unfortunately that is all do to the handle.I think it is made to stand out and not to be functional. My first feeling was that I'm holding my tennis racquet (picture for comparison). It fits in my knife block, but depending on yours it may not play nice with other knives. You can see how this handle dwarfs my other knives.Steel: It just says "Damascus steel" which for most knives on the market now just means the pattern style on the blade. There is no indication of what steel this actually is. It says VG10 in certain areas of the listing and other listings online (but not consistently). I highly doubt that this is VG10 since that would be included on the blade if it really was. So realistically this is a stainless steel. This knife does not have a full tang. If you look on Amazon.com (not .ca), there is a knife from this brand where the handle has been removed. I have tested this with a strong magnet and I can confirm where the tang ends. In fact the tang is is a different steel and welded to the bade. This doesn't mean it is a bad thing... just tells the story about aesthetics over quality and workmanship.

AWESOME BREAD KNIFE!
From pineapple to bread this thing comes razor sharp and does not lose it's edge easy. Claiming Japanese Damascus steel (Which doesn't exist) it is a gorgeous steel blade with a walnut style handle. It not only looks cool but it will cut through whatever you need it to. I was shocked at how durable it was. This thing cuts through ordinary things like a "hot knife through butter". It's that good and I am so happy I have one.

Magnifique !
