Marie's Read
The stories are wonderful! It helps if you are familiar with the English culture and specific vocabulary, even with that I was using my dictionary from time to time.Reading the forward is a MUST, the Professor puts the stories into context, helps explain the author's motives, and gives a history of the author's writing.I am planning on reading several of her books in the coming future.

wonderful read for a quiet evening
Drabble's writing is like music in a wedding. Her wording and perception of life is unique. Age comes and we all see so much we still want to experience in life. We also realize we do only what we can and we must live life with a sense of fulfilment. She sees it all and describes my perception in her writing. Great read!

Especially to be loved by Drabble fans
If you love Margaret Drabble as I do, you will love this collection that spans a lot of adults time frames. No one says "it" about life, especially, urban UK feminine life, like she does.

Excellent Writing
These stories were the "set work" for my book club this month. Opinion was divided but although somewhat of a Period Piece, I loved them and thought they provided great insight into the condition of woman in the late twentieth century and beyond.

reading in the bath
various subjects, sometimes drifting into an ending. Interesting, cleverly observed.I just love short stories. When will they invent waterproof books so that when I drop them in the bath they don't turn into oysters?
