A beautiful and illuminating book
This book is only 200 pages long, but nevertheless it is packed with information about Tchaikovsky's life and full of interesting insights into his character - a credit to Simon Mundy's precise and concise writing style. It is also a very beautiful book, so Pearce Marchbank deserves a mention as the designer of the eye-catching cover. Likewise, Nikki Russell should be credited for sourcing the wonderful pictures in the book, ranging from portraits of Tchaikovsky's family, friends and musical associates to posters, landscapes, concert programmes, newspaper cuttings, manuscripts and score illustrations. Such a lot of work has gone into the production of this book, and it is truly magnificent. A very interesting and highly informative account of Tchaikovsky's life which more than deserves a 5-star rating.

Informative .
It's informative about events and in the context of history and has interesting photos. I would have liked more on the music and to see what his written scores looked like. Very little about his feelings.

Hack work
If you just want a brief biography (and plenty of photographs), this will serve; but it contains almost no discussion of the music. It is also not well written, sometimes seeming like hastily written-up notes.
