Following Nelly Bly is a delightful and unusual travelogue. Rosemary Brown does a marvelous job of telling the story of this high-spirited and intrepid record-setting world traveler, and the author herself exhibits some of those same characteristics as she follows Nelly’s trail around the globe 125 years later. Using Nelly’s own journal as a guide, Rosemary Brown finds a remarkable number of the same sites that Nelly encountered in each of the locations visited, though many others no longer exist. The author’s curiosity and well-deserved good luck helped her find a few by chance – as in a Canton museum where she sought refuge from a rainstorm. The author’s enthusiasm about - and admiration for - Nelly Bly as a person and for her courageous adventure is apparent on every page of this well-written and engaging book. And the illustrations by her husband found throughout the book are an added treat.

In a time where travel has been limited Rosemary Brown has taken us on her journey with Nellie Bly around the world. Nellie's race around the world took place in 1889 to 1890. The author's took place in 2014. While reading this book it feels as if you are on the journey with them on this race around the world. Nellie Bly's place in history is no longer buried or forgotten, she is back front and center. The illustrations and maps complete the package.
