Digitally remastered and expanded two CD edition of this 1981 album by the Sheffield-based post punk outfit including non-LP singles, demos and BBC radio session tracks, plus booklets with rare photos, memorabilia and detailed liner notes. Sleep No More was The Comsat Angels' second album and is widely regarded as a masterpiece that had a major influence on bands such as U2 (who toured with the band). Sleep No More produced no singles, but it had the highest UK chart ranking for any Comsats album, peaking at #51. One of the most underrated acts of the early 80's, the quartet twinned together sparse, economical musicianship and a large sound. Perhaps too dark for populist tastes at the time, Comsat's music has been described as "abstract pop songs with spare instrumentation, many of which were bleak and filled with some form of heartache." Unjustly overlooked for their important contribution to music, their influence however, is enormous; the haunting atmospherics and simply played, but expansive nature of their music having a direct effect on countless post-punk revival bands including Blacklist, Bell Hollow, Editors and Interpol.

Finally
I have been waiting for years for the re-release of this album. If you were in your 20s in the 80s you should love this band. Play it for your kids.

If I Could Only Give 6 Stars
Sleep No More is truly truly one of the great albums of all time that no one knows about. Granted, it is now two decades plus since it came out so it will feel a little dated, but....not as much as you would guess. This was an exceptional, amazing album.

A Brilliant Album, Lost No More
Thanks to this 2006 re-release, we've been given a chance to rediscover a classic album by the great underrated band, Comsat Angels. Many have described the music here as gloomy, but don't get the idea that this is the "shoegazer" sound of bands that came later. There is a power to many of the tracks, such as The Eye Dance, Dark Parade and Be Brave. It has been said the drums were moved next to the elevator shaft and recorded from several floors, creating a dynamic beat--such is the craft this band put into their music. The original album included 10 songs; this re-release has several bonus tracks, including Eye Of The Lens, one of the Comsats' greatest songs. Renascent has packaged the CD with a fine booklet including photos, album synoposis and quotes by Stephen Fellows, the Comsats' front man. With music this good, everyone should have this album in their collection (and on their iPod) now that it's lost no more.

The seminal Alternative rock band
The Comsat Angels defined Alternative Rock as we know it today. They were the the perfect example of post-punk link to ALT Rock...don't believe me? Just listen to "Waiting For a Miracle" then listen to "Sleep No More" For this reason only, this band should be recognized for their contribution.Another note was the fact that The Comsat Angels toured with U2 circa 1980-81. Obviously, U2 took good notes. Especially when it came to the overall thick, textured guitar sound and implicit lyrics the of the Comsat's. This band was WAY before their time and influenced, if not help define alternative rock as we know it today. This band deserves 6 stars on this effort.

Post punk classic
Rewarding at every listen, even after 25 years+ of it. The remastering is decent. The bonus CD contains some interesting session tracks plus the outtake 'Mass', which is a gem.

A very special album
A fantastic remastering of a classic album. A huge but clear sound, big spaces around the instruments, dark and strong songs. And still that genious 'less is more' structual approach that set the Comsats apart from all others. This album gets to you in a very special way and will always stand the test of time.
