Is this model okay for Dallas Texas or would I need model 6163 with the fan?

I strongly suggest that you get the unit without the fan.  I've been using these units in Central Texas since 2005.  I originally got a unit with a fan to facilitate a more accurate temperature reading.  The problem is that the fan has to run 24 hours/day and it will eventually break.  I mean, this is not a machined, all-metal, military-grade device.  It is made entirely of plastic and it will wear out.  Also, mold and dust and spider webs will collect in/on the device over time because it is out in the weather.  These contaminants will interfere with the proper functioning of the fan.  I bought another unit for use in Houston and I bought it without the fan and I have been very happy with it.  I've had it for 3 years now and had no problems.  I an not a scientific lab where I need EXACT, EXACT temperature readings.  If I was, I would buy a more precision device built to last longer - and pay much more for it.You will have to mount the unit where it will be relatively easily accessible.  You will have to occasionally remove the rain bucket and remove dirt and bird droppings from the tiny hole in the bottom so you will be able to get accurate rainfall readings.  Birds love to sit on the top of this and inevitably, they will leave droppings that will clog the unit.  Dirt will also collect inside the bucket and block the hole.The wireless unit is recommended to eliminate any chance of lightning coming into your house along the wire and damaging your display unit.  My sensor suite is located on a radio tower at lest 500 feet from the display console located inside my house and I have absolutely no problems with receiving data packets from the sensor at that distance.

Not directly. There is a multifunction bar graph which indicates a past 24 hour view with 1 hour granularity. Accuracy of the bar graph is variable, depending on the scale multiplier. The value for each hour of time is indicated by a "bar" consisting of 10 dots. You can set an alarm for low temp. The bar gragh array consists of 24 columns, 10 high.

Can you use this to download weather data from other peoples Davis unit? How do you use this to forecast the weather from local and other states?

Accepted Answer

No, you cannot. In order to download data directly from another persons weather station the person has to upload the data to Davis or some other service (e.g. weather underground). Then you will need that persons password to download the full data. Both Davis and weather underground provide maps with data from nearby stations. If you buy a station, you can basically store and download your own data, provided you buy one of Davis' options for uploading, or some third party option. But this is independent of getting access to other people's data. I am not a meteorologist so how one would use the data for forcasts is a bit beyond me.  BestJon

this model include the tripie for the station? or do i have to buy separetely? please provide the product number or this tripie?

I assume you mean tripod.  The tripod is a separate item that would need to be purchased either from Davis direct or if there is a Radio Shack still open nearby they would sell them.  You can also look on either Amazon or ebay. If you are referring to the item the weather station is mounted to in the picture that would be a mast and like the tripod you can probably obtain from the previous mentioned sources.
