A Must for the Collector!
An excellent book filled with lovely glossy photos and useful information. One of the most iconic artefacts and beloved memorabilia of the First World War, this well written and presented book fills a gap on the collectors shelf. Not only does it seek to clearly explain the differences between the tins, and the reasons for the differing items found, it also deals with some of the myths surrounding the tins. I would recommend this beautiful book to not only the collector but anyone with an interest in the history of the First World War.

Fascinating
Peter Doyle gave a talk at the National Army Museum on December 17 about his book. It was fascinating and very well received. I therefore purchased the book, and it is beautifully presented. I have told others about Princess Mary's Christmas gift.

A Professors eye for detail and aesthetically as expected
As well as research that is never tainted whimsy, cliche and rhetoric you are guaranteed a book of quality. The link between artifacts and people has been a theme in many of the most engaging books of the Great War. I would suggest a look at the Peter Doyle’s back catalogue for some gems. This book gives you a real connection with the times something which is often missed in books with lofty aspirations to explain campaigns and contentious political characters. It’s not really a story about a box.
