World-renowned leader offers a simple guide for changing the lives of kids, one at a time
The late Peter Benson, a pioneer in positive psychology, transformed family and community work , worldwide, with his research-based approach to raising healthy youth, with more than three million young people surveyed and the successful model of 40 developmental assets ALL kids need to succeed referenced in more than 17,000 peer-reviewed journal articles and publications. Known for his big ideas (even by the Dalai Lama who invited Peter in 2009 into dialogue about how to raise compassionate children), here he offers simple ones— do-able everyday actions any adult can implement to make a positive impact on a child's journey into adulthood. Between this guide's covers, there are suggestions that can change kids' lives and, ultimately, change the world. A great resource for community leaders, volunteers in youth programs, parents, teachers, counselors, basically anyone who comes in contact with at least one child. As Peter was fond of saying, "If you're breathing, you're on the team!"

Changing children's lives, one at a time.
Peter Benson's book is a call to action for everyone of us who want children to flourish. He writes eloquently about the power of relationships to listen, encourage and validate young people as they explore and discover who they are. His concept of sparks is an important one, every child will have something which lights their fire and says "this is me". Benson is concerned that we should all ask "what is important to you" and then listen without advising or prescribing. He believes that moments matter and add up so each of us can make a contribution a bit at a time. I found this book inspiring and moving and wish I had discovered it during his lifetime. This book is part of his legacy to the world.
