I have used a swoe since the Wilkinson Sword Company first introduced the design, perhaps 50 years ago. It's the only type of hoe I use regularly, and I love it. The single support for the blade (as distinct from the double support of a dutch hoe) allows one to work close to plants. The long reach enables one to work at the back of the flower border without risking one's back. The open design allows one to fluff up mulch without it all catching on the support (again, unlike a dutch hoe). With the blade turned to vertical it's quite effective at loosening up the first few inches of soil, or for tidying up along lawn edges (although a short-handled swoe is better for these jobs because it provides more leverage). Turned right over, it can be used for leveling, like a draw hoe. The ultimate test: when other gardeners see me using my swoe they go off and get their own! In fact, I'm ordering another one from Amazon today because my daughter has "adopted" mine!

I like the stainless steel head and the ability to drill out the rivet that mounts the head to the handle which will allow for replacing the handle in the future.

I love this tool. My old swoe rusted out (not this brand!) I have been hunting for a new one and am so happy with this - it comes with nice edges that will take very little work to keep sharp for easy weeding. Joy!The old rusty one? I plan restore it to pass on to someone who has not had the pleasure of a swoe. It wasn't that bad, just needed an excuse to get a new one...

Extremely well made tool using stainless steel on a tool that is constantly used in dirt is a great idea. Ideal for working in flower beds and around delicate plants but also very strong for tough big weeds.

It really works. Easier than a garden hoe. The long handle save the lean forward and save the back. I recommend this. It is new to me. I found the idea in a garden club forum.

This is a real find for me. It eliminates a lot of bending, and I'm able to go through weeds like a champ. Some reviewers complained that it didn't have a sharp edge. I didn't find that to be the case at all. It works fine as is, and if you want it razor sharp you can grind it down.

But as others have said, it needs sharpening with a metal file and whetstones. Blade was a bit loose on the handle when I first got it, but that was easily corrected with a hammer. Overall a good tool that feels like it’ll last a few decades at least.
