Quick and Easy
I had a QNAP NAS drive with many terabytes of data, in RAID 5... The QNAP product decided it does not want to work anymore. I will never trust that brand again.I bought 2 of these to mount the drives via USB (along with another couple of mounts I already had).Worked as they should, were more than quick enough, power supply did the job perfectly.Nothing more to say, RAID 5 rebuilt and files recovered.

Easy-to-use SATA Adapter - excellent!
I have recently acquired four well-used 3.5 inch SATAs from an old friend. I need to know what, if anything, is on them and whether I need to copy / delete / reformat them. This is a simple, reliable, easy-to-use SATA Adapter. I plugged it in and straighaway started work.Excellent and invaluable piece of equipment!

Always works with any SATA hard drive.
Very easy to use, and very well made.External PSU means it can be used with desktop hard disks too.Used for scanning and editing hard disks.

When it works, its okay! Power Supply is awful
The power supply seems to be an issue with this, it gets hot quickly, and I think it has a knock on effect on the adapter as after about 6-15ish minutes, the drive powers down and disconnects from the host machine. When it does work before shutting down though, it's reasonably quick to transfer files from external HDD's.

Doesn't work reliably with Linux
I bought 2 of these adapters and 2 WD enterprise 10TB HDDs, and connected them to an RPi 4 running Ubuntu 24.04.1. Whichever adapter I connected to each HDD one particular HDD would periodically drop out and then reappear as another device (e.g. if it was /dev/sdb it would become /dev/sdc). Adding usb-storage.quirks=7825:a2a4:u to /boot/firmware/cmdline.txt reduced frequency of but didn't prevent the failures. The affected HDD worked flawlessly in a USB/SATA caddy, and with an adapter from a Seagate 8TB external HDD. Therefore the adapter is evidently the problem.
