Awesome for Teaching "Take"
This is absolutely a necessity if your dog just *will not* learn "take" with regular objects. Something about the shape makes them want to put it in their mouths. It's made of plastic and is not as heavy as I thought, which is a good thing because I was afraid it would be too off-putting. It's not lightweight, either. it has just enough substance. My friend's golden thought the wide ends were a nice chew toy; it holds teeth marks very well, as if the dog bit into wax, which is why I gave it 4/5 stars. I would expect a toy made for biting would be a bit more resistant to teeth. It's not ruined, just a bit ugly.

Really helps with training
I had been trying for months to get my dog to "hold" an object. She's by no means a retriever, but I was wanting to teach her some tricks. And the foundation of many of those tricks involve the dog holding an object. This little dumbbell did the trick. She finally got what I was asking of her. Not sure why this made a difference, but it did! Now we've been able to move on to different objects and perform those cute tricks at the nursing homes.

dog loves this toy.
my sheltie likes this toy and will carry it with her. she does like to chew it and it is not indestructable so they will put teeth marks in it if you let them . but she likes to carry it and it's fairly light weight

Not a good choice for us
It makes a nice desk ornament. My sheltie has no interest in it. I think the center pole is too long for small dogs.

Good Durable Toy
Great toy! Very durable. I don't know if it actually floats, haven't tried that. I'm using it as an obedience tool, but should make a great toy!
