Works like a charm
I bought this for the sole intention to catch lanternflies. As you can see it does exactly that. Of course there will be non-lanternfly casualties, but that's war. My only gripe (which doesn't effect my rating) is that the tape can rip easily if too much tension is applied. Anywho, I highly recommend this to my east coast compadres and to any one wanting to decorate their trees with a bug garland.

DANGER: UNSAFE FOR BIRDS
Setting aside the nightmare to put on the tree, this product is NOT SAFE FOR BIRDS. I had two small birds trapped on the tape, one likely died (blood on the tape) and the other my mother and i had to try releasing as his whole left wing, neck, and dorsal wing were almost fused to the glue. The bird COULD NOT FLY because of the glue was so bad on the feathers and also likely died that night. This product should not be strong enough to TRAP ANIMALS when its used for insects. I HATE KILLING ANIMALS.

Quickest and Easiest Way To Start Killing Lanternflies
Bought this item after realizing the trees in my backyard, was home to thousands of Lanternfly eggs over the winter so I wanted to make sure I could catch them before they were grown enough to make there way back up the trees and destroying them. After only 12 hours of having the banding tape on the trees, they were filled and needed to be replaced. The adhesive banding tapes work absolutely perfect, and I made sure to keep the wraps below the beginnings of the branches, yet high enough above the base; so as not to trap small birds or animals accidentally. I certainly would recommend this to the folks living in the East Coast area, or any other area experiencing this terrible Lanternfly Issue.

Does the Job
We used this product to deter Spotted Lantern Flies, which were infesting the neighborhood, especially our maple trees. These insects nest and lay eggs on the surface of these trees and can kill the tree but draining its sap. They tend to walk up the tree from the ground, so we used a high pressure hose to knock them off the tree, and we then wrapped the tree, at several heights, using this product. The results were excellent. The sticky surface immobilized and killed dozens of these insects over a period of 4 weeks. It also caught and killed literally hundreds of black flies, an added bonus. I shared a role of the product with several neighbors all of whom had equally good results. If this problem reoccurs next year, I'll do precisely the same thing. I strongly recommend this product. Incidentally, nothing larger than a small insect became stuck.

Worked with spotted lanternfly
Purchased for spotted lanternflys. They started being caught within a few minutes. Some gnats and other insects were attracted to the white paper and were stuck.Paper was easy to tear.4 - 3 1/2 in rolls.3 1/2 inches is wide enough. They crawl up the tree, touch the paper, and are stuck. They don’t seem to like crossing over other caught bugs.I tried duct-tape and it didn’t work as well. They would step on the tape, find it sticky, then back up looking for a new path. Duct tape caught less than 10% of what this barrier caught.Instructions say to change weekly but I change it every two days as it gets too full to catch more. Also, I use a fly swatter to get the ones that stop at the barrier.
