Coloring projects – like puzzle building – get better as you age. The simple line drawings of animals and shapes, gives way to increasingly difficult compositions with more intricate designs. The owl canvas – a velvet outline on a thin piece of white paper – looks more challenging than it really is thanks to the mirroring details on either side of the owl’s body. Whatever you color on one side – say the brows above the owl’s eyes – can be replicated above the opposite eye. Still, there are a lot of areas to fill that require a steady hand and concentration. And you can raise the level of difficulty by creating more detailed color schemes. The scale of this project means that it will probably be worked on over a period of hours. Although it requires attention to detail – coloring in the lines, following your color patterns – it’s not a craft that demands intense thought. You can pick it up and step away from it without negatively impacting the final composition. My daughter really enjoyed coloring this while tuned out listening to music on her headphones during a 3-day weekend holiday from school. She was in the family room with the rest of us, but quietly doing her own thing. Two pieces of advice: Make sure you have fine-tipped markers in a wide variety of colors; and the paper is thin and the marker colors will bleed through, so protect the working surface underneath. The velvet adds a fancy touch to both the coloring work and final look. We’ve already ordered another one.

Loved coloring the owl
I put off coloring the owl for a couple months. Finally I started it. A little daunting at first but very enjoyable and rewarding once I got into a rythm.Looking forward to the next more difficult one.

It looks great
My poster just arrived. It looks nice. I plan to use it as a passive program at my library.

Real fun project for all ages. Colors just "pop" against the black background
12 yr old granddaughter loved it. Glued it on a piece of sturdy poster type board and really helps when working on it because it doesn't "roll up" then. Used metallic markers which really stands out against the black background. Since we put it on a sturdy cardboard backing, it works great to work on work on while travelingalso!

You'll be satisfied!
Very fast delivery, it arrived ahead of the delivery date. Its a very nice, but intricate drawing so I recommend studying it for a while before coloring it to ensure consistency of the animals within the owl. I would have liked the paper/velvet to be a bit thicker, and it was rolled up for shipping. Its a very calming process to color over time.
