Cutest book ever.
This is a very sweet story. I am sure it will be one of our favorites for years to come. I read about it in the magazine Bella Grace and of course amazon had it. Well worth the money .

Lovely Winter Book With Great Message
This book has such a great message. I think it's perfect for teachers like myself who prefer to keep the winter holiday themes a little more nondenominational.

Not just for winter!
Great book with beautiful art. It's a little wintery, but that doesn't stop my kid from insisting I read it year round. The use of onomatopoeia and anthropomorphism in this book is excellent. Without it you'd just have a kid dragging his sled looking for a "wish tree" which his siblings have assured him doesn't exist. Not an amazing plot on its own.Anyhow, this book is good enough that we've bought it as a gift multiple times as well as a copy for ourselves.

Beautiful picture book with an important message
Charles believes there’s a magical tree hidden in the forest, where you can go and make a wish and it will come true, but his brother and sister just say “There’s no such thing.”Still, young Charles isn’t that easily deterred and not prepared to give up on his dream. Determined he sets out in the cold of winter to find the special tree. His only companion is his sled, Boggan, a trusted and reliable friend. As the two wander through the deep snow, they don’t find the tree, but come across all sorts of animals, squirrel, beaver, fox, the owl, a group of wee mice and many more. All of the forest animals are confronted with a problem.Squirrel has gathered too many hazelnuts to carry home by himself, the beaver has gathered too much birch wood and fox doesn’t know, how to get all the delicious berries home to her burrow.Charles and his friend Boggan are able and happy to help all of them solving their transport problems, but, of course, it’s time consuming to be of assistance to others in need. Finally, it’s getting late and Charles has grown weary and tired. He’s too exhausted to go on and sitting down on Boggan, falls fast asleep. But Charles has made many friends along his way. Will they now be there for the boy to help him when he needs them most? Will Charles find his Wish Tree?Critically acclaimed author Kyo Maclear has created a very beautiful and heartfelt story, which shows young children why helping others is important and very rewarding. When Charles is on his journey, he sings a song, which I found a very good idea to engage children further with the book and to encourage them to join the boy and sing along.Cleverly, the little sled also contributes: “Whishhhh” sang Boggan.Illustrator Chris Turnham’s artwork brings in soft pastel shades the wintery landscape alive. There are many small and lovely details on every page, my favourite being the one where the boy finally stands in front of the famous tree. Stunning and very beautiful.Highly recommended.
