TERRIFYING & EMOTIONALLY POWERFUL APOCALYPTIC THRILL RIDE!!!
Just at the outset…..just WOWWOWWOW!!! Such an intense and deeply complex dystopian thriller!!!! I could NOT STOP TURNING PAGES and stayed up late into the night!!!! The characters are complex and PHENOMENAL and the plot is chilling!!!! Super realistic and yet on the verge of being so surreal it makes you hold your breath throughout!!!! CANNOT WAIT TO SEE WHERE THIS JOURNEY GOES NEXT!!!:-). LOVED IT!!!!:-)

Enjoyable, edge of your seat novel
Dering made an enjoyable, edge of your seat novel that I could barely put down. While reading you’ll find yourself anxious yet excited to see how the story unfolds. You got sucked into the action, and the world the characters were living in. I sincerely hope that this book is more recognized in the future. That being said, the book did have negative aspects as well. While the characters were well written, information about their past came out at the most inconvenient and awkward times. Besides all this, the rest of the book was fantastic. Out of five I would rate this a four. It was a wonderful book which I thoroughly enjoyed, and think others would too. The best audience would be sixteen and up age group. The sexual content is pretty mildly explained, so the only reason I would say sixteen and up is because of the gore that is explained in detail. All in all, The Utopia Project is a wonderful book, that I’m glad to have read.

Great Read for Rainy Days!
This book is almost too realistic. It uses events we have all witnessed in today's society. The commotion and torment of COVID and the unrest about the presidency was all too familiar. The novel really takes a turn with the discovery of the Utopia Project and all of its' villainous, malicious intent. A world destroyed by the very thing that was promoted by the lie that it would create a stressless and carefree life Following the main characters journey to save the world is an experience in itself. There are some twists and turns that keep you reading. I read most of this in one sit down and cannot wait to read the next one in the series. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a save the world kind of novel. It doesn't disappoint.

Good plot but has sone issues
The plot of this story is interesting and almost too real considering the current unrest worldwide, and there are some good bits of suspense sprinkled in. There’s also some action and a villainous group trying to remake the world. All of these are good things. Now for the things that bugged me and/or needed fixed. First, one of my pet peeves is stilted dialogue that has no contractions. People whose native language is English do not speak this way. The author switched from this to realistic dialogue then back again. A good editor could fix this. It happened in descriptions too, but was glaring in dialogue. The lengthy flashbacks didn’t quite work either. I kept feeling like they could have been shortened and worked into the various characters’ thoughts instead of being full blown flashbacks. These sections tended to slow the ace of the book.Last, I really wanted the characters to be more fleshed out. They were a bit too 2-dimensional.This was an interesting plot and I did read to the end. The ending could have been done a bit better. Yes, I know it’s a series, but even with a series there needs to be a sense of conclusion of one part and a teaser for the next book. The ending fell a bit flat. There’s a lot of potential here, let’s hope the author finds his stride with book two.

A page turner
I purchased Utopia Project last December because the description caught my interest. It was on the book shelf with many other Clancy, WEB Griffin and Clive Cussler novels waiting to be taken to work and read. Being a Newark boy who moved to the jersey shore years ago , i realized what a bonus I found in an adventure staged in my new home town.Lucky me , I found a page turner , with Villans I soon hated. Also heroes amongst the generation that most adults are most critical of for having no common sense .I just ordered book two.

End of world story with twists and turns.
I actually enjoyed the story, even though the plot lines were easily anticipated. A few surprises, but not many. Some hot under the sheets action that seemed to me to be gratuitous. An easy ready, almost at the teen level. I read the three book series. A good book to take on a vacation trip in case of bad weather.

Just what a science fiction thriller should be...
New author, Billy Dering takes us on an ambitious and fun science fiction action romp that actually belies the book's dark dystopian undertones previously found in the writings of Orwell and Huxley. But where books like 1984 and Brave New World start by immersing us in worlds where the populations have already been socially engineered, Dering starts us off on the eve of a terrible event that will change everything. We meet a group of young adults who inexplicably survive the hellish night only to discover what the powers-that-be have planned for our future. As the survivors fight for their lives, we're treated to action, suspense, intrigue, a bit of romance, and a lot of satisfying sci-fi storytelling. I found it to be an easy read, and enjoyed the amount of detail with which the author describes everything. He clearly poured a lot of work into his research. Looking forward to the next installment.

2 of the 4 stars need to supernova
The plot was interesting enough to prod me into reading the entire, way-too-long series but that’s mostly because I am stubbornly obsessed with knowing how stories end. This series almost cured me of that. It’s pretty bad..YA characters, plot, dialogue, relationships. Too many plot holes. Drags out trivial details and meanders off into irrelevant detours and simplistic philosophy lectures. The author’s apparent dislike of “greedy and corrupt” capitalism along with his admiration of naïve altruism, and socialism are apparent in his characters and where they all actually agree that self is subordinate to society. The principle of altruism has no place in this war story. Unless the good guys are under direct fire, they let the bad guys get away because they don’t want to kill. And when they do kill, they go on a guilt trip.Do yourself a favor -- don’t care how it ends.

a fast-paced ride through a dystopian world
What if a relative handful of people decided to rewire humankind into a more malleable and obedient whole and believed that to do so, they needed to erase the existence of the current inhabitants in order to start over. This was a story I couldn’t put down as I followed Kid, Jess, Heidi, Maria and Sara as the only survivors in their race to survive.

A Dystopian Vision with a Glimmer of Hope
This riveting read offers a unique blend of post-apocalyptic tension and dystopian intrigue. Set against a backdrop of a world reeling from political and social upheaval, the narrative masterfully combines elements of suspense and science fiction. The story's exploration of a society that offers false utopia, where freedoms are exchanged for an illusion of security and happiness, is particularly compelling. The protagonists, Sara and Kid, bring a human element to the chilling scenario, making their struggle against the oppressive forces of the Utopia Project both relatable and gripping. The twist of the mysterious gift box adds an extra layer of intrigue and hope in an otherwise bleak landscape. This book is a thought-provoking and thrilling read, perfect for fans of speculative fiction looking for a story that combines action with a deeper commentary on society.
