Insightful and uplifting
Chomsky at his best

Thought provoking
As you would expect from Chomsky a rather erudite and interesting read. It is able to present the complexities of our age in a digestible fashion . The book is basically lectures given by Chomsky and Waterstone on various topics such as: capitalism and militarism; capitalism and environment. Well researched, topical and thought provoking. As lectures they flow more easily than a formal piece of literature. Content is sometimes quite astounding and it is presented in such a way that even a person with a casual interest in the area would be able to access the details and understand the issues.

OK
People who are familiar with Chomsky's work won't learn much new from this. It's an OK read. It's based on lecture notes from a series of lectures which he and Waterstone gave. As a result, it has a very conversational style, which didn't do it for me. There are loads of sentences along the lines of "as we saw last week", etc. Another result of the conversational style is that there aren't extensive references given and the different topics aren't explored in much depth. The stuff from Waterstone might be interesting for people who are unfamiliar with Marxism.

Failure of capitalism
A reasoned step by step analysis of why capitalism has failed. The alternate lectures by the two eminent professors enable one to compare theory with practice.

Most conscientious piece of literature
Great content for people who want to learn about the pitfalls of capitalism. The book was delivered in good condition and the publication quality is high.
