Lavender Scented Potpourri. Potpourri offers a wonderful home fragrance and a beautiful decor accent. Potpourri is a natural air freshener made from dried flowers, leaves, seeds and cones. It is used to provide a gentle, natural scent in homes, and to make rooms and cupboards smell fresh. Arrange your potpourri in a decorative bowl wherever you would like the fragrance. My potpourri is a mixture of natural botanicals from my northwest garden. Common ingredients are usually (but not always) cedar, marjoram, rosemary, sage, Douglas fir needles, eucalyptus leaves, seed pods, rose petals, miscellaneous flower petals, and lavender leaves and flowers. This potpourri is naturally scented, but you can add a couple drops of an essential oil such as lavender, every few days to renew the scent. Other uses for potpourri include masking the smell of mothballs in cupboards and deterring insects. Cloth pillows of potpourri (called sachets) can be placed in drawers or in shoes to leave a fresh scent. You can place loose potpourri in ashtrays in cars.
