Awesome!: Exploring the Nature and Names of Jesus

This simple little book has been helping me to love Jesus more!This is not a deep, theological book. It is very simple. And, honestly, much of the information contained in it is not at all original: Bible verses, quotes, dictionary definitions, and the same study questions repeated every chapter... But I'm loving every bit of it for how it's helping me remember just how awesome Jesus really is.My favorite part is the list of 800+ names of God, though I would argue these are more characteristics or descriptors of God rather than names. But who cares!Things I don't like:- It's too expensive- It's too well-made (I don't like the thick, glossy paper; extra thick, embossed cover; color printing; or fabric bookmark. I feel these add to the cost without adding to the benefit.)- I really don't like the glossy paper (makes it hard to take notes and underline things)- There are some typos, mistaken verse references, and repeated names of God- As mentioned already, a lot of what's here is not original and sometimes feels less than finished

This book, written by a man who has walked closely with Jesus Christ and is well known as a man of deep prayer and reflection, is a powerful contemplation of the names and character of the Son of God. It is inspiring, faith building, and brings Jesus near to the heart. Highly recommend it.

Every day one scripture would remind me who God truly is. Truly meditate , thank, ponder of everything He is. Jesus changes everything.

My pastor loves this devotional book and is having our whole church go through it during the month of October 2022. It's easy to read and it's great to have an examination of the multifaceted nature of Jesus. The author makes heavy use of the Message translation of the Bible. I know that the translation is popular, but I don't like it. I guess I'm the odd one out. Anyway, I find the devotional useful and "pretty good" but I'm not as excited about it as my pastor. I'm sure that he's more spiritually mature than me so I'll have to assume I'm missing something that he clearly sees in the book.

Eastman provides thirty-one meditations with an aim of magnifying Christ's nature and glorifying His names. The meditations help show us Christ's nature and character and experience His wonder. The meditations also encourage us to exhibit the character of Jesus. Each meditation concludes with a written prayer and four practical application suggestions.Along with the thirty-one meditations is a list of names of Jesus Eastman has accumulated over the years. I found some to be a bit repetitious, like Shepherd and Overseer of Your Souls (1 Peter 2:25) and Shepherd of Your Souls (1 Peter 2:25) (p. 192) and Sun and Our Shield (Psalm 84:11) and Sun and Shield (Psalm 84:11). (p. 198) Nonetheless, these names give further opportunity to glorify Christ by meditating on them.I think my favorite meditation was on praying Jesus. Eastman's insights include that Jesus went to a solitary place for restorative prayer. Also, it was not uncommon for Jesus to pray all night, even after a tiring day of ministry. And something I had not really thought about before, Jesus did not stop praying after His resurrection. He still intercedes for us. The entire meditation gave me new encouragement to put more emphasis on my own prayer life. Jesus is an intercessor and if I want to be like Him, I need to be an intercessor too.Eastman includes insights from several people and movements in history, making this an informative book as well as one drawing us to the majesty of Jesus Christ. I recommend it as a good resource for spending a month considering Jesus.I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher. My comments are an independent and honest review.

Mr Eastman is well to elevate Jesus. But I felt like the same points could have been made in one tenth the space. There are just so many ways to expound on any one adjective before if feels burdensomely repetitious.

This entire book will stay with me for a long time and I see it as a love letter to Jesus which blew my mind. Awesome! by Dick Eastman is empowering and insightful to the next level. Scriptures and prayers included with each day to help you to get to seeing Jesus are some of the best resources that can be useful for this journey. Eastman has created such a wonderful book to creating a meaningful relationship with Jesus and it will only grow from there.
