8port switch
It works great but the led should have been on the front rather than back as I can’t see the light since it’s at the back.

Perfect with the right price.
It has arrived sharp on time. Good price considering that is D-link product and the quality of this brand is a certainity. It is fast and easy to install, it doesn't require any network knowledge.I purchaised this product because My wi-fi connection is not always stable and the signal not always of a good quality. So I thought about this rj45 switch to solve some stability issues with some periferals like console, smart TV and my IT work station. Now all are working perfectly and the connection is stable.NOTE: It isn't a router and it isn't a wifi access point, but just a network switch.

Faster than my old router
The setup was not smooth. The app used to setup the router froze twice, and the router failed to configure properly twice. In all I had to restart my phone a couple of times to exit and restart the app, and reset the router 3 times to restart the setup. Eventually everything worked, and once the router was working I found it's range comparable to the 20 year old router it was replacing. One bonus was an equally old range extender still works with the new router. I don't have broadband so I can't comment on it's speed handling that, however where my SmartThings hub would sometimes be slow to execute a command or go offline for a few minutes several times a week so far commands have been executed more quickly, and the hub has not lost it's connection yet.

SOLID!
I had a DIR-1950 that I only had for a couple of years until I had a problem with it and they told me it was legacy and not supported anymore. So I bought its cousin the R18 to replace it. (Same brand). The R18 gives stronger coverage in my three bedroom house and gaming performance is greatly improved. Not a single device in my house (and I have a lot) complained about this router. And the interface although visually different was very familiar from my previous D-Link. I can live with one fewer Ethernet port and no power switch. This thing rocks.

Great affordable little router for setting up OpenWRT
My ITS/CIS Son wanted to set up OpenWRT for his VPN service, and this router was most cost effective option available for him to experiment on. He found only one major issue, you'll need to use a slightly older version browser to do the initial memory reflash, but once that first step was out of the way, the process can be done on any browser, and was easy to do. He recommends this router as a great starting point for someone wanting to use a VPN for their home network, not just per computer. He found the information, appropriate firmware and instructions for redoing the router at openwrt.org. Migration to using it as a VPN router was a relatively simple, step by step process, and well documented on the OpenWRT website. Setting up the VPN side was covered on the VPN provider's websites, so for whicher brand/service you choose you can find what you need to make it work smoothly on an enabled router. For roughly $30, it was a great buy, and wasn't a huge risk if somehow the router gets bricked. I think the lower price is because D-Link ceased DIR-2640 production a while ago, and product support of this model ended in June, but that doesn't mean the router is dead to the world; to the contrary, he'll probably get several years of good use out of it before it is ready for our local electronics recycling center. :-)
