A great energy bar for the environmentally conscious consumer
I am basing this off of my previous experience with Chapul bars (and I will update this if the experience is any different), but I fully enjoyed each of their flavors. While the price is higher than other bars, the market for cricket flour is still small making this product more for the environmentally-conscious consumer than the everyday buyer, but my review is for the bars themselves not their economics. I've eaten crickets whole before and I get none of the cricket taste in these bars nor any cricket "bits." The texture of the bars is somewhere between a Clif bar and a PowerBar, and the flavors are all distinct from each other. As far as nutrition goes, the bars are somewhere in the range of 200 calories with protein contents on the order of 10 g as compared to sugar content around 5 g and fat content around 15-20%. The lower sugar content means the flavors aren't always sweet, but I still found them delicious. Overall, I really enjoy keeping these bars around as an on-the-go snack.Update: I'm dropping this product down to 4.5 stars because while the original flavors (Aztec, Thai, and Chaco) still taste as good as I remember them, the new Matcha flavor was disgusting unfortunately.

Great Introduction to Entomophagy
I got these because I'm interested in exploring entomophagy but I'm not yet at the point where I can pop a cricket in my mouth. I'm sure I'll get there, but it wasn't the right first step for me.I don't love the flavors of the bars, but it has nothing to do with the crickets. Even my husband, who was fairly appalled at the idea of eating bugs even in energy bar form, was pleasantly surprised at the lack of anything that could be discerned as an "insect" flavor. We just don't happen to love any of the flavor combos. I don't really want spiciness in my energy bars, and two of the bars had more bite than we like. The Chaco bar was our favorite. That being said, if the descriptions of the flavors appeal to you, the flavors do seem well balanced, and the big boost of protein from the crickets leads to a very filling bar without a ridiculous number of calories. They're not overly sweet, and even without loving the flavors I'm likely to reorder them.

I got extremely ill after eating
It tastes like a normal protein bar -- no problems there. But I felt after the first half bar that it had mildly disagreed with me, but I kept trying the bars, 1/2 per day for 3 days. The queasy feeling didn't go away. but I thought maybe I just had to get used to it. The morning of the fourth day my body emphatically purged itself of its contents.

Chapul high protein cricket flour bars
I like what they did with the flavors on these bars. The matcha tea and banana has a good banana flavor. There is a ginger, coconut and lime. Usually you see vanilla or chocolate or something. It gets boring. There is one standard peanut butter and chocolate. Tastes good. And a really nice dark chocolate, coffee and cayenne. You can taste each of these flavors. The cayenne isn't too hot, just a nice amount that rounds it out. They aren't skimpy bars either; they're substantial. And 10 to 11 grams of a complete protein is pretty good too. They use monk fruit extract. They have chewiness and some crunch, cacao nibs and/or other. And no, they don't taste funny, like seafood, or like crickets to me. They just taste pretty good. I started by buying a 4 pack and almost immediately went back for the dozen.

Tasty original flavors - not even a hint of cricket-ness
I was looking forward to trying these, because I like the idea of more sustainable protein. Although the idea of crunching on crickets is a little intimidating, it was a bit disappointing that there was no discernable crickety crunch to these. The cricket flour is completely masked in what is effectively a date bar - since I'm a fan of date bars I can say they were quite delicious. If you blindfolded me and gave me one I would have no idea there was cricket flour as an ingredient. I applaud the highly original flavors, which were really quite good. Tasty and fun to try, but probably not something I'll go out of my way to buy again.

I wanted to like these. I've had crickets
I wanted to like these. I've had crickets, mealworms, grasshoppers, etc... plain and in other foods and usually enjoy them. The flavor just isn't right in these. I was surprised because the reviews are generally good, but they were bad enough I didn't even finish any of them. The "Eat By" date says they're still fresh so I'm not sure what happened, but they were hands down the worst tasting insect product we've tried so far.

Interesting snack
I got these just to try something with cricket protein. I love the matcha/banana bar! If I reorder, I want to get all of that flavor, if possible. The cayenne/chocolate/coffee was also good. The Thai bar was ok but not something I'd want to get again. I am allergic to peanut butter so I will have to give the chocolate/peanut butter to someone else (I have to find someone brave enough, still) and can't comment. Overall, good and interesting protein bars. Filling and tasty.

A good product, but a bit pricey.
A good product, but a bit pricey. The taste is quite good and it's a great ecological idea, but over $3 per bar is just not competitive. That being said...Having the 4 flavors is a great marketing idea. I liked the Matcha best tho the Chocolate Pnut Butter was close. The Thai was a little "crickety" tho mostly that just comes as a new flavor you might not recognize. I gave the Aztec to a friend who liked it. These are not crunchy granola-like bars but more chewy, smooth, and very flavorful.
