Lovely ocarina! Little bit of a bigger size and softer tone then alto c version. It suits me very well, much better than Night By Noble plastic ocarina which is widely recommended for beginners. Well, maybe I have bigger hands, but this alto F ocarina is very natural and comfortable to hold for me. Also very well balanced instrument- it is pretty heavy but I can hold it easily with only left pinky and thumbs.

This one, being their first lower pitched ocarina, is no exception to that statement.If you want an ocarina that plays lower notes than your usual alto C then this is the perfect one to get. Because this ocarina isn't as high pitched as those that play in a higher key; it isn't as loud or shrill, making it a good choice for those looking for something that they can play without bothering anyone while they practice. It also makes a great accompanying ocarina to a soprano for beautiful sounding duets.What I love about this ocarina mostly is how consistent it plays throughout it's entire range. From the lowest notes all the way to the highest, the sound this ocarina produces is clear and tuned correctly even to someone with perfect pitch. The lows are so mellow and rounded and have a sound that will make anyone who hears them melt. Those are the most important parts of an instrument like this because if you are looking for the lower ranged ocarinas you want those low notes to sound the way they do from this one. Even the two sub-holes do their job well, giving you a few extra refined low notes.Now because this is a bigger and heavier ocarina I wouldn't recommend this one for a beginner, but because this is in a lower key I would assume that if you're considering this that you aren't a beginner anyway. The holes on this model are not the same size as on an alto C, they are bigger so they can let more air out. That being said, when you play the highest notes it requires a lot of air being blown into it for the best sound. I've also found that tilting the ocarina up a bit while playing those last couple of high notes helps get the air the way you want it to be and will cut out any "airy high notes" that you worry about when looking for a new ocarina.Holding this ocarina is quite comfortable, especially for myself as a man with big hands, it rests neatly in the palms where it's supposed to. If you've never played an ocarina bigger than the usual alto C then it will take an hour or so to really familiarize your right hand with the finger holes but once you get used to the transition from another ocarina it fits very nicely.There isn't much left to say so I'll mention a few other things. The packaging that it comes in is much more carefully made then when you get something fulfilled by Amazon prime as the box that it arrived in was stuffed with bubble wrap, keeping it in perfect condition. The carrying pouch that holds the ocarina is great too, it's soft, protective, and has a snap button instead of the velcro that you usually get with the pouches that most ocarinas are shipped in. The ocarina doesn't have an overwhelming smell that some give off. And of course the neck strap is the same adjustable and sturdy one that you get with every ocarinawind ocarina.OVERALL - I would call this the perfect Alto F ocarina, from the feel to the sound and quality of this instrument i give it a very convincing 10 out of 10. Another win from OcarinaWind. The ocarina I received is not only beautifully made, It sounds amazing also. The fit and finish is professional quality. The low tones that come out of this thing are haunting and clear. Every note is in perfect tune with very minimal breath pressure, even the highs. This is my fifth ocarina from this company and all five are in perfect tune, fit and finished beautifully and all come with some sort of padded case. I have some higher priced ocarinas from different known companies and I will put any of my OcarinaWinds up against them. This guy is big, so read the description really well before ordering. It's listed as an alto, but it's a tenor in the F4 pitch not F5. They make a soprano F if you're looking for the F5 range, I have it also and it's equally as good as this one and they sound great together. If you're looking for that low haunting sound, then this guy is it.

What a delightful surprise this ocarina was. The finish is gorgeous. The tone is lovely and the ocarina is well balanced and comfortable. Yes, if you're thinking about buying it do so.

I bought this ocarina because I wanted something lower than standard AC. I'm very pleased with this ocarina, very mellow tone and low notes and aswell high notes sound very good. Might have a tad of airiness on highest note, but nothing too bad. That's very common on 12 hole ocarinas by the way so nothing to worry about. Ergonomics feel good, hand positions are good and it's easy to cover all the holes. Thumb hole are a bit big tho, but at least I don't have any problems with them. I'd recommend this ocarina if you want something lower than AC. AF ocarinas aren't that popular anyway so this is really good option to get good one and for very decent price.
