If they'd only done a better job with the climax fight this would have been even better
X-Men Origins Wolverine was highly anticipated as Wolverine was by far the most popular X-Men character in both the comics and the movies. As the title suggests this was supposed to be his biopic with the added bonus that it included Sabretooth. The movie was great until the very end where they spoiled everything with the climax battle. Like in the comics the plot was based around the conflict between Wolverine and Sabretooth’s animal instincts and their human ones, and which would win out.The theme of the film is laid out right during the opening credits. It shows Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) and Sabretooth (Live Schreiber) as being almost immortal living from the America’s revolutionary times up to the present. Sabretooth was the wild won who enjoyed killing, while Wolverine tried to be his conscience and control him. After one bloody escapade in a Vietnamese village the two are recruited by Colonel William Stryker (Danny Hust) to join a special operations team made up of mutants. Later Stryker injects adamantium into Wolverine’s body in the Weapons X project as Logan becomes known as Wolverine. That was a great start and the added bonus was that tons of X-Men/mutant characters were also included. The special forces team was made up of Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds), Blob (Kevin Durand), John Wraith (Will.I.Am), Bolt aka Chris Bradley (Dominic Monaghan), and Agent Zero aka David North (Daniel Henney). Later Silver Fox (Lynn Collins), Gambit (Taylor Kitsch), Emma Frost (Tahyna Tozzi), and Cyclops (Tim Pocock) all shop up. It was like a Marvel fan’s dream. With all that how could things go wrong? Well they ruined everything at the end. Logan faces off against Deadpool who looked so bad that The Deadpool movie even mocked it.If you can just ignore the final fight than X-Men Origins: Wolverine is still a very good film.C

Origins of Xcellence...
X-Men Origins: WolverineFor those who waited for this prequel to X-Men, it was worth every moment, every day of anticipation. For those who have never seen X-Men, well, this is a great place to start. In the grand tradition of the comic book, this edition features the origins of The Wolverine, the mutant who is at the core of the storyline. I do not like to get into plot or storyline too heavily. I despise trailers with their 'let's show them the entire movie in split-second sequencing'. It's designed to monetize, not for the viewer. You'll not get that in my reviews either. There have been some excellent renditions of the `Batman', `Spider-man', and `Watchmen' series' in recent years. With just the right mix of CGI, storytelling, and acting, we have reached new levels in the way comic books are depicted on film. Director, Gavin Hood, has taken these tools and designed an outstanding issue in this, the third installment of the series. The bar now rests at a higher level for those who follow. I enjoy director's who compete with their peers. When they get it right, amazing results are often achieved.Like the original comic book series, a tale can be told with the flourish of great graphics, coupled with minimal, but carefully selected text, to achieve a creative and comprehensible story line. The great artist, Jack Kirby (Captain America, Fantastic Four), was the initial artist in the X-Men series. While not the creator of the `Wolverine' character, I believe he would have approved of the camera work in `Wolverine'. There is great stop action framing, perhaps homage to King Kirby. I also love the angles used in shooting. In many cases, the distant view of the entire scene is shown, much like in the comic books.Hugh Jackman stars as `Logan/Wolverine'. He is perfect in every frame. The effort that Jackman has put into this portrayal is clear. He has turned himself into a physical specimen rarely seen in a starring role since Bruce Lee in `Enter The Dragon'. Add to this his powerful ability to project dialogue in any manner and its clear Jackman is far beyond the coveted `triple threat' that most entertainers aspire to be. His turns onstage as `Curly' in Oklahoma, `Peter Allen' on Broadway, and film roles in `Van Helsing' and ` The Prestige' solidify that fact. For good measure, he was the song and dance, comedic host of the 2008 Academy Awards show. There is excellent supporting talent at every turn in this production. Liev Schreiber is particularly nasty as the `hell bent' Victor Creed. Musician, Will.i.Am,Kevin Durand and Taylor Kitsch all lend nice supporting roles as well. I particularly liked Lynn Collins, as Logan's love interest Kayla.Dominic Monaghan (Lost) lit the way as mutant `Bolt'. He was joined by and `A-Team' group of mutants that put on an excellent display of their superpowers. Rounding out the team was Tim Pocock, Ryan Reynolds (as Hal Jordan/The Green Lantern' in production), and Daniel Henney. Their scenes epitomize what many comic readers love to see in the pages, action packed, and jaw dropping abilities. They did not disappoint here.TechnicalThe Blu-ray edition is vibrant and exceptional at 1924 X 1080p, 120Hz. The sound is fine on all levels at 5.1, dts-HD. The special features are many. They include the customary commentary with the director (Gavin Hood), a great feature with Stan Lee and former writer Len Wein. The back and forth banter is pure gold for fans. So many tidbits of fascinating information are thrown at you, seemingly as afterthoughts. Also included are `Ultimate X-mode' (ability to sit in the director's chair, pre-visualize Wolverine and X-Facts), a helicopter scene, insight segment, and an alternate ending. The language options are English, Spanish, French, and Portuguese. The subtitles available are English, Spanish, Portuguese, and Cantonese.

Expected more.
I liked the X-Men films and thought Hugh Jackman did a very good job as Wolverine so looked forward to his own vehicle. The opening 10 mins showing the boy James Logan and his brother was interesting but the plot was all a bit tired. After fighting through the ages (Civil, WWI, WWII and Vietnam) James and his brother Victor join a 'special unit'. The unit oversteps the mark and Logan quits. Cue lovey bit until he's found and dragged into the Weapon-X program. The plot is all a bit cliched but my major gripe, similar to the animated Hulk vs series, is the fight scenes. There are a few CGI moments which would be acceptable in a lesser budget movie (think Daredevil... which I quite liked) but should have been picked up during an edit but, worse than that, is the indestructability of Wolverine, Weapon XI and, to some degree, Sabretooth. I know it's one of Wolverine's powers but it was done pretty well in the X-Men movies. Here there just seems no danger. They're sliced, diced, shot, crushed, smashed etc and simply 'recover' to be repeated. The love interest keeps reminding Wolverine he's a human not an animal so, at some point, you know he's going to go feral... which just seems as if he snarls a bit and then resorts to smashing, slicing and crushing again. If you like brutal action over plot you'll like this more than I did.

Big jump in the type of violence from the other x-men films
My 12 year old son & my husband loved it, fantasy violence I did not hear it but there is meant to be a bad word but then I did not sit and watch this all the way through. As a Mum I thought 'too much fighting' and not like the other x-men films where there is some fantasy violence where they all use their powers, but this seemed over the top fighting of everything that seemed to appear.. but again it was probably that I dislike violence and surprised this did such a jump. I certainly would not show this to anyone below 12.

Probably the worst of the X-Men movies
Probably the worst of the X-Men movies. Jackman does his best, but it's not a great script. For a better Wolverine film, see "The Wolverine". For a better film starring actual Deadpool, see "Deadpool".
