With a little modification and redneck diy knowledge, u could have a perfect engine built just for u! With the durability of the metal cylinder and metal tube compared to glass, and the heat and noise dampening technology of the wooden base compared to the metal base, it'll have a lot longer life, it'll be easier to handle, and run not near as loud as to not create too much of a disturbance without sacrificing rpm speed, which means it'll run just as fast and a bit quiter. I really like the wooden base a lot better because not only is it quiter while it runs, it's also easier to handle after it burns a whole tank of fuel and finishes 1 complete run. It's a lot cooler to the touch than the metal base. I wish they sold them just like this so everybody could have one! With a mixture of industrial tech (durable metal displacment tube, power piston, and power cylinder) combined with the comfort of home (wooden base), I really do think this would have to be the perfect little engine anybody who's interested in these types of hobbies. And for those who want a long lasting engine that requires little to no maintenance at all, runs fast, and doesn't make too much of a racket while it runs. All in all, I give this thing 5 stars! Extremely well built! Just don't pull the displacement tube off (the round ended one) or it'll be a nightmare trying to get it back in without damaging the rubber gasket. Trust me, first hand experience always teaches the best. I did that with the first one I got (which was the one with the wooden base and glass tube and cylinder) and ended up breaking one tube and ruining both rubber gaskets it came with. Turned out not to be a good idea, but it was kind of a good learning experience which worked out in the end I guess. Hah

As an engineer, I have been involved in aerospace and commercial Stirling technology for many years, and have recently purchased several units similar to this one from Amazon for an educational demonstration. This is one of my favorites. The workmanship is excellent, the design is surprisingly (for a "toy") refined, and it is sturdy and reliable. 10 thumbs up!

For the price of this engine. The craftsmanship and quality seems very high. I have used it a few times and never misses a beat.
