Awesome ABS worth a try!
This review has been done with Lulzbot Mini equipped 2.85mm Hexagon All Metal hotend with stock direct drive extruder.I have bought this filament to replace the IC3D ABS I used for a couple of months. IC3D ABS have up and down quality overall, the most problem I had is wrapping for large print and crack on the surface after parts cooled down. After tested with a couple of other settings with different print speeds, extrusion temperature, bed temperature (80 to 115 C), I decided to explore some other brands. (Without proper enclosure is the major cause of warping with large ABS print on Lulzbot Mini. However, most ABS prints with correct setting and PEI/BuildTak Surface are doable ) And Monofiliment Black ABS is my second attempt. So far after 3 kg of their ABS, it became my only choice for ABS filament now for both some of my 3D Hubs orders and DIY printer project.Overall, the top benefit I found, in my over 80+ hours printing, is the excellent tolerance of this ABS filament which successful on the first attempt and work with relatively wide range of temperature (Tested from 225 - 250C) and speed settings (Depend on different printers, fast for large print and slow for detail parts). Secondly, compare with IC3D filament I used before, it has much fewer cracks between layers after cool down that is vital for my printed printer parts, that I assume its base material has smaller thermal expansion ratio compared with IC3D's. In attachments, I put some photos of parts for my UM2 build with Mono Black ABS, which has 300-micron layer, no support for overhang and up to 80mm/s speed. Last but not least, the overhang/bridging ability is also impressive. In the past year, I start to use some PET(G) filament as ABS replacement for less warping and fume-free during printing. However, one downside of PET based material is its poor overhang/bridging ability. Therefore, ABS is still my top choice material for some tricky engineering part.In addition, price point and overall consistency of filament diameters are some surprising bonus I would like to mention too. Without the doubt, the overall quality of this ABS is for sure top notch. And I would love to recommend this to fellow makers. For some reference I attached the setting profile I used, feel free to give it a try. Furthermore, I will keep this review updated for the future discovery and improvement on wraping issue.Link for Cura Profile: [...]
