Product description After early support from Elton John and success across the UK and much of Europe, Anastacia's debut album gets a U.S. relaunch with one additional track. More Chaka Khan than Mariah Carey, the Chicago-born Anastacia brings both a powerful voice and a sense of restraint to these performances. There's no doubt that this is a grown woman, not another teenager copying Britney Spears' attempts to conjure Janet Jackson. All that said, something unconvincing lurks in Not That Kind. The singer (and co-writer of most of these songs) has obviously done her homework on '70s soul music; "Don'tcha Wanna" owes enough to Stevie Wonder's "I Believe (When I Fall in Love It Will Be Forever)" to occasion a co-writing credit to the maestro. It's simply that she relies too much on mannerism to fully give herself to the material. She sounds at home enough within these modernized pastiches of everything from late Atlantic-period Aretha to Donna Summer, but never really socks one home the way a complete original like Macy Gray would. In turn, that failure makes the attitudinizing of "Yo Trippin'" and "Why'd You Lie to Me" fall flat. --Rickey Wright .com After early support from Elton John and success across the UK and much of Europe, Anastacia's debut album gets a U.S. relaunch with one additional track. It's about time for a good pop diva!
Where have all the divas gone? I bought this album on the recommendation of Amazon customers (thanks, everyone), since I'm always looking for good music. Especially since this is a female vocalist, it caught my eye.Anastacia rocks! She can belt like the divas of old (the 20th Century). She has attitude, and sings songs that you can really listen to and relate to. I gave a lower rating because I feel like it came across as just a touch commercial. But maybe that will help her to extend into the mainstream. I'm looking forward to hearing more from this singer.

I'd give it 6 stars if I could.
I've never heard her played on the radio, but a friend caught her 'I'm Outta Love' video on VH1 and recommended her. So after listening to the samples I got the CD -and was blown away. I've been listening to it non stop. The music has a unique instrumentation and her voice is incredible. The songs are a great mix of mellow -even jazzy - and upbeat rock. An even blend of get up and dance, and sit back and chill. My favorite picks are 'Why'd You Lie to Me' for upbeat; and 'Who's Gonna Stop the Rain' for mellow (great lyrics too). I have an eclectic taste in music, but I don't know how anyone -whatever tastes- could not like this CD. There's not a bad song on it.

Where does that voice come from?!?!
I have heard "I'm outta love" several times and couldn't find out who the artist was. P-H-E-N-O-M-I-N-A-L voice!!! Finally, after digging and digging and digging I found out that Anastacia was the singer. I've seen her on tv before but never heard her voice. How in the heck this tiny, beautiful white girl has such a powerful, soulful voice beats the heck out of me. The voice doesn't match her looks but obviously she's got the best of everything going for her. BUY this CD! WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
