J-Life Japanese Traditional 4" Shiki Futon - Full Size (shikibuton)

It’s super comfortable! I’m aware this type of mattress isn’t for everyone but when I found out it helps with back pain it made me want this even more. I have ALWAYS wanted one and now I do and couldn’t be happier. It was said to have came a week after I purchased and it came in three to four days—WOW! The smell is a bit strong but after the first night it seems to not host as an issue anymore. I also light candles a lot in my room so I think that helped as well.Although it’s meant for floor sleeping I do have a platform bed frame and I’ve used it on that. I really can’t describe how better my sleep is after switching mattresses. I have been absolutely in love with this futon mattress since it came to my doorstep. Thank you so so SO much! It’s fantastic! And the note of instructions warning it’s flammable ect was very helpful. The mattress does need flipped often but since it’s on a bed frame it’s easy for me to flip it. I bought this to co-sleep with my infant on the floor. It is too heavy to move around frequently, or to fold up every day. It is plenty firm enough for a parent and infant to sleep on safely however. It is very very firm, I feel better side sleeping than on my back, but it works for my purposes. It does have a wicked smell that has not really gone away. I let it air for 24 hours before using, then put a zippered cover over it. It still smells, but the product itself is just cotton so I'm not too concerned about it.

Was very pleased at first, comfortable and no pain. As a travel nurse I thought this would be a perfect item easy to travel and comfortable to sleep on. However this mattress requires airing it out and moving it to keep it from compacting too much. It is not lightweight, and there are no handles on it. I live alone so I don't have someone that can help me hang it on the balcony or roll it out and move it to a standing position. After 2 months it wasn't much better than sleeping on the floor. I would have been happy if it had lasted me a year. Instead it's a very expensive dog bed and I will throw away soon

Traditional Japanese futons are not for everyone; they are thinner and firmer than many Westerners prefer, there are no springs, and they do require occasional turning to keep them happy. I've wanted one for a very long time, and I'm thrilled with this one. It is exactly like traditional futons I slept on in Japanese hostels and old family inns, made of heavy and durable fabric. This futon was a full 5" thick when unpacked. The actual measurements of this fullsize futon are 54" x 72", not 75" as stated in the description, so it's a few inches short for my fullsize wood bedframe, but I couldn't be happier with it. The mattress doesn't have enough stuffing, so it shifts around while you are sleeping on it, creating severe depressions in it during the night. There are several inches of air space between the cotton filling and the cover. This should be filled with cotton, making for a firm sleeping surface and keeping the cotton inside from moving around. Instead, since it is under-filled, the cotton is constantly shifting around in there. My low back was so much lower than the rest of my body that the severe pain woke me up and I was out of commission for the rest of the day. I didn't have this issue with other futons I've tried, even the really thin ones. I imagine this company is cutting corners and hoping people won't notice. Anyway, I returned it but the shipping cost me $200. Don't waste your money.

Amazing. It's so comfortable. From the other reviews, I was worried it was going to be too firm but it's perfect. I really feel like my body aligns perfectly for a good rest. No muscle aches in the morning. It's very thick, and exellent quality. It also breathes great but still stays very warm and cozy. Arrived super quick! Personally, I love the smell. It's like fresh-cut hay or buckwheat. Very natural. My cat loves it too! I would purchase another one in a heartbeat.

Exactly what I was looking for. Impossible to even find someone in my area who knows what a futon mattress is. It arrived a couple days early. They sent information that answers questions you see in the reviews , i.e. length which is short when it first arrives but as it settles it stretches out some. It's very comfy. Several reviews mentioned a smell -- no smell with mine. Definitely recommend this if you like sleeping on a futon.

This thing is amazing. Best sleep I have had in years. Used to have back pain waking up in the morning and that is no longer the case. I use it directly on a hard floor with no issues at all. Will definitely buy again if this one ever wears out.
