Less-Drowsy First Gen Antihistamine
Most 2nd Generation Antihistamines don't work very well for me and Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is too sedating for me to be taken daily. This is a good compromise. It's still a first gen but isn't as intensely sedating as Benadryl. You'll still get tired, sleepy even, but for me, I can still continue on with my day without sneezing or stuffiness.

Review and Dosage
Our little dog has been suffering from allergies this year, and while switching to Flint River Ranch Food for Dogs helped some, it didn't totally get rid of the uncomfortableness our pup must be in. I was a little concerned about buying medication from Amazon, but being OTC and not seeing any negative reaction my worries were greatly reduced. Note: this review should not be interpreted as professional medical or veterinary advice - I'm simply reporting my findings as a consumer.DOSAGEAccording to 1-800-PETMEDS (source cited in the comments) the following recommendations are made:"How this medicine should be used:Chlorpheniramine is not FDA approved for use in veterinary medicine; however, it is a commonly accepted practice to use this medication in dogs and cats. The usual dose for dogs is 2-8mg every 8-12 hours. For cats the usual dose is 1-2mg every 8-12 hours. Do not open or crush the long-acting capsules. What are the side effects:Side effects may include drowsiness, vomiting, diarrhea, and lack of appetite. Dry mouth and urinary retention can also occur. What special precautions are there:This medication should not be used in animals allergic to chlorpheniramine or similar antihistamines. Do not use chlorpheniramine when it is in combination with other medications such as acetaminophen or caffeine such as found in various cold and sinus products. Do not use in pregnant or lactating animals. Do not use in patients with glaucoma, prostate disease or urinary obstruction, stomach or intestinal obstruction, high blood pressure or hyperthyroidism. Use caution when given with phenothiazines such as acepromazine and other central nervous system (CNS) depressant medications. Chlorpheniramine should not be used with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) such as selegiline and Preventic tick collar. Use caution when given with metoclopramide. Always tell your veterinarian and pharmacist what other medications your pet is taking."While this hasn't totally dealt our pup's allergies, she is itching noticeably less and seems a little happier. Before switching foods and using this product she would try and scrape her face against the carpet floor and would cough and sneeze on a daily basis. Since using the Chlorpheniramine the sneezing and coughing has all but ceased, and her scratching is MUCH reduced. Keep in mind, our dog only weighs 24lbs and her allergies weren't severe as diagnosed by our vet, so your mileage may vary of course!Overall, for the price paid we are definitely satisfied, and would recommend to anyone to give this a try - for $5 you really aren't wasting money on useless medication! Vet recommended for a cat with severly itchy skin
My cat is so itchy that he's scratching/biting bald patches. After learning that cats can take some OTC allergy meds, I called for a recommendation. This is her preference - at wmg (½ pill), 2x a day.I din't know whether they'll work but, for know, a phone call and $4 bottle of pills was a lot better than trying to get my cat in a carrier, then getting a $150 vet bill!!

Micro dose at a micro price.
I have morning alergies and I don't like using a high dose antihistamine 3 or 4 times a week. This 4 mg dose is very low but has terrific results.
