I remove the box- bath from the cage in order to clean it and add fresh water

You would need the XXL size. Measure your bird then read the size chart for the bath.

Q: does the blue top come off, for those birds that don't like feeling enclosed in small spaces like my Goffin?

Yes but they can get out hooks on side of cage

NO, my African Grey barely fits.
