I always read reviews when I buy on Amazon. You know how it is, sometimes you still get a LEMON. This ain't that. I read negative feedback, and in most cases I THOUGHT gee I bet they had that thing on a single speed tool, hopefully not a light handtool, and with ZERO speed control.Ok so this ITEM. Works like it's supposed to work, IF you use a slow speed, and have a tool that can handle this thing. A decent drill press it's absolutely agreeable with that. A heavy duty hand held drill with a GOOD clutch, settings for slower speeds, and a good locking bit vise, will also get it done. A puny little hand drill, and you may have issues. Don't blame the bit for that, LEARN how to use tools, and use equipment suited for the work.My bit ate a hole through 1/4" plate steel like BUTTA. Of course I was using a decent drill press, and had that metal clamped down hard to the table. Went through several pieces of thinner plate, and some mixed metals my WOOD boring bits wouldn't touch. I didn't let them anyhow. On some of the thinner stock I used a 18 volt cordless Milwaukee, and zoomed through everything I encountered, right up to and slightly past the 7/8" diameter.Fun bit, easy to use if you use it right.

Known for getting the job done as cheaply as possible, I needed to drill four 3/4”holes in 3” oil field pipe for a gate post. Wasn’t about to spend $40 for a cobalt 3/4” drill bit I’d never use again, so I used a 1/2” bit I had on had and bought this step reemer on the cheap. Wow! It took all the abuse my drill press handed out and still has a reasonable sharp edge. For you that don’t know, oil field pipe is thick steel pipe, very tough stuff. I did use a little cutting oil and took my time with small bites at a time not to over heat the bit.

There is little in this world I hate more than taking my drill to start a project and finding I need a different size bit. You have to stop, get your bits and try to eyeball the correct size. This solves that problem for most projects with 1 drill bit. I was kind of skeptical when I first got it but using it a few times has made me a believer. It cut through everything I tried it on with no problem and the design actually moves the wood chips or other debris out of the way better than a standard drill bit. Obviously if you have a thick piece of material you might need to grab the standard drill bit but for 80%+ of the things I do this 1 bit takes care of it so it gets 5 Stars for durability, really good edge and saving me time and frustration.

I bought this for my brother in law who loves creating artwork using sheets of metal. His "art studio" is a small section of the garage so he doesn't have a lot of space for tools. This is perfect for someone like him. You can create a variety of sizes depending upon how deep you drill it. It's a very sturdy piece. It drills through the metal easily and leaves a clean hole.

Is the only step bit that I have found that? Actually functions properly when drilling does not load up or get dull the only thing that is not good about it is. It is very aggressive have to learn to control it.

It is a great bit. Works well. Very sharp. Would definetely buy again.

Needed to punch some 3/4" holes in very thin sheet metal (four foot light fixtures). Where a twist drill will spin and burn, this drill plunges in and drills out the hole required with no heat and no problems! I am very satisfied with it's performance.
