The Great British Farmhouse Cookbook (Yeo Valley)

This is a very personalised cookbook by the daughter of the famous family of yoghurt makers - Yeo Valley. The introduction is a charming description of their farm and her youth spent helping with a great variety of tasks around the farmyard. There are pictures of her and her family and reminders of life before the supermarkets took over. There is also information on how they kept their Lakemead pedigree herd and a section on the DIY dairy. This contains recipes on making yoghurt, yoghurt cheese, cream cheese, clotted cream, crème fraiche and recipes using them.All recipes are clearly set out with lists of ingredients and clear instructions that are easy to follow. Some are twists on old favourites - lemon curd and raison bread, raisin bread and butter pudding or stoneground soda bread. Others such as Cauliflower Caramelised Red Onion and Caerphilly cake or Crunchy Parmesan and Garlic Picnic Chicken are more unusual. All look and taste delicious and the recipes are beautifully illustrated and designed to inspire you to try them out.If I had a criticism it would be that the organisation of the contents is a little difficult to follow, set out as it is into Dairy, Farmhouse Kitchen, Veg Garden, Farmyard, The Pastries, Woods Fields and Streams and the Fruit Garden. It is not always intuitive as to where you will find your recipe. However, there is a helpful index at the back which is more logically arranged.

This book, The Great British Farmhouse Cookbook, has been republished as The Farmhouse Cookbook with one big change -- US measurements have been added. Beautiful pictures, inspirational recipes and ideas, this is a lovely book. The copyright date on the new version, The Farmhouse Cookbook, is March 1, 2016, so some of the used ones and perhaps some of the new ones for sale from other sellers will probably be The Great British Farmhouse Cookbook with the British only measurements. Be sure you buy the one you want.

This is a lovely book, which I got at a bargain price, and worth every penny. I haven't used any of the recipes yet, but not because I don't want to, and it is clear they will be great when I do. I'm spoilt for choice as to where to start first (probably that gorgeous ginger cake to share with friends and family). As the recipes are geared for a family, these meals will be perfect for when cooking for family and friends, but also to divide up for the freezer. And I loved the history. In fact I read it from cover to cover as soon as I had chance. Love it!

Have yet to make anything from this cookbook. I have gone through and book marked all the one I would like to try. I love the way this book has some very interesting pictures. I will have to find a conversion chart though, but I knew that when I purchased it.
