Wires and Wings: The Puzzle Box chronicles Book IV

You can run from your problems, but can your escape from yourself?
There are multiple storylines in this series. I love it. The enigmatic Jeb has helped Amanda flee Boston, avoiding the law but also placing her prize possession at risk when it's left behind. As she travels, the great American West that Amanda discovers in 1891 is not the one she's read about. Unions vie for control of rail yards. The quest for copper, for electric wires, has left pollution and great conflict in its wake. She stumbles into ethnic tensions she never knew existed. I've learned quite a lot about this important time period in U.S. history, but the story has always kept me entertained. Amanda longs to escape yet again, but when she does, she faces a level of desolation and desperation she never thought possible. Meanwhile, back in Boston, a petty criminal and a gifted scientist fight their own reckless battles.

How the West was Won?
Book IV follows in the path of the previous books in the series, developing the heroine and the puzzlebox storylines, but also using these stories to provide a view of the important happenings of the era. Not only the developments in electricity, but also labor movements, women's rights, and the continuing fallout of a civil war barely a generation past.

highly imaginative
Vivid descriptions and characters. The sense of time and place help paint a vivid picture of both New England and the American West in the late 1800s.
