Fascinating and personal account of some wonderful cars
Rating: 3.5 stars.I love cars and have always admired Mercedes-Benz automobiles; in fact, I'm driving one myself, my 5th over the years. When I ordered the set of 4 books of which this is the third, I was hoping for lots of new pictures and some interesting comments as well. This volume arrived along with its companion, #4 in the series so I'll deal with it first. The book is very comprehensive and includes photos of unusual and one-of-a-kind models some of which I'd never seen before. There are interior shots showing differences among models as they changed over their production lives and there are lots of photos of exterior details of all of the models covered. Both European and North American versions are included, with pictures showing differences. The text is also interesting and full of facts as well as many personal experiences. The author has a good command of English but the text is full of Germanic turns of phrase that add to its flavour. It's obvious that this is a very personal account from someone who knows and loves the brand and he's done an excellent job except for one specific problem without which I'd have given an easy 5 star rating. Many of the pictures are significantly pixillated. This tends to show up particularly along chrome trim that runs along the body side and in the little squares of the M-B grille. In the early days of digital cameras pixillation was a common problem and even recently, sending low resolution images in jpeg format to a printer would usually result in this kind of pixillation when the images were printed. Similar problems arise when a low resolution image is sized up to a larger format. I suspect that's what happened here and it came close to spoiling the book for me. Not every photo is like that but when you see good pictures for three or four pages and then suddenly come upon something like the M-B 220SE on page 45 whose every chrome line in that rear view, including bumper, taillights, fins, window surrounds and even the star on the trunk are all jagged, it just brings one up short and makes one wonder why he spent so much for this book. I could give many more specific pages of examples but I think I've given sufficient warning.I think the book is still worthwhile for a true M-B enthusiast and there are plenty of excellent photos to make it worthwhile. Just be prepared for the jagged lines on the others.

A great book about Mercedes from the 60's
This is great book for both the novice and those that are familiar with Mercedes from that era. I am one over the experts on Mercedes from the 50โs and the 60โs and even I learned some interesting facts about these vehicles. The book is well written with not too much time spent on mechanical details. I especially liked the detail photos like the โBinzโ body plate from one of the special bodies vehicles. I recommend the book highly for anyone that is interested in Mercedes Benz from this period. Bob Gunthorp

Must have
There are so many books about Mercedes-Benz available that it is hard to decide which are the "must haves". This is one I would not be without. I have owned and experienced nearly every car in the book. It is accurate, it provides information not contained elsewhere, and what I like most is the personal experiences of the author. I hope you enjoy it.
