The Teacher Shares Her Secrets
Having taken a botanical painting course from Sandrine Maugy, I was delighted to purchase this book to learn more about her working methods. Four areas really stand out in this book: her method for transferring sketches to watercolor paper, how to mix harmonious grays for the under painting, the division of the book into sections by color (each of which has its own tutorial), and which paints to purchase for single pigment, transparent, and luminous colors for botanical painting. Knowing which paints to purchase as well as which paints to avoid will greatly improve the vibrancy of your paintings.

Now I have the perfect palette
Sandrine Maugy is a wonderful botanical painter. In this book she covers all the colors, how they work with her style of painting and which she keeps in her palette. Then for most colors she includes a tutorial. Incorporating her harmonic shadows has lifted my painting from passable to really good.

Excellent learning tool
This book is very informative and easy to understand. I learned lots of new ideas as to applying translucent color layer over layer and it can be used for other subject besides botanicals.

Disapointing
I am a Botanical Art teacher and when I first read about this book I was enthusiastic. I and several of my students bought it. The wisw ones said I;ll look at yours first. The colour was not good, I compare it to the book on Rory McKewan several of us bought around the same time where the colour was superb. It is not a book we all agreed we will use as a reference.

Great book on botanical colours
There are detailed discussion on homemade mixes of secondary/tertiary colours as well as discussions about the different brands available for each colour. All is done from the perspective of a botanical artist so how useful these paints are for the botanical subjects you may want to cover.

Colours of Nature
Having attended one of Sandrine's courses, I was keen to get her book and I am absolutely delighted with the result. Of all the Botanical books I have, hers is the most informative when it comes to colours and the mixing of same. Have almost finished reading it and it only arrived this morning, stopped half way through to mix a colour I had been pondering over for quite a while and am thrilled with the result. Well done Sandrine, a wonderful book which deserves to be on any artist's bookshelf.

Beautiful and Instructive book
As well as being beautifully produced and illustrated this book is an absolute mine of information on all aspects of botanical art. I think all botanical artists whether just starting out or more experienced would find it invaluable. I bought it because I felt that I needed more advice on colours and colour mixing but this book gives all that and so much much more. I don't think anybody who bought this book would be disappointed. It's excellent and well worth the money.
